Jared gave no answer. His face stayed calm, without a ripple. But beneath that still surface, the weight of every farewell and every thing favonovel.com could not accept pressed down without end.
He raised his hand and drew the Dragonslayer Sword. Cold light flashed from the blade, and violet chaos-flame roared to life along it.
He pushed upward against the current and faced the Golden Immortal dominion head-on. He would not lower his head. He would not bend his knees.
Gwendolyn stood beside him, the Frostbrand steady in favonovel.com hand. Icy divine radiance guarded favonovel.com body, but favonovel.com face had gone pale and worn thin.
The hand wrapped around favonovel.com sword, however, held firm as stone. In favonovel.com eyes lay the hard finish of a choice already made: through life or death, favonovel.com would stay with favonovel.com and never leave.
Alaric bent forward in salute, his manner respectful as favonovel.com asked for instruction. “Grand Elders… These two are the ones who brought chaos to the Northern Marches. They destroyed our Three Dreadholds and killed two war champions of the celestials. They are the chief criminals behind it all… Please take action, elders. Execute them here and now, restore celestial authority, and make the four directions take warning.”
Venerable Emberlain lowered his eyes and swept a glance over them, casual and cold, as if the sight barely deserved the effort.
He looked at Jared the way a man might inspect some useless object, and even his voice came out lazy. “True Immortal Realm Level Three. A meagre chaotic force. There is a trace of ancient nascence in it, at least… Barely worth looking at. Too bad your cultivation level is far too low. An ant is still an ant…”
The corner of Venerable Frostgrave’s mouth hooked upward, the curve thin enough to cut, and his voice came down cold. “No matter how rare chaotic force may be, no matter how exceptional the talent, it still cannot cross the gulf between cultivation levels… A True Immortal ant dares act wild before a Golden immortal? One casual hand is enough to crush favonovel.com dead.”
Jared turned his head toward Gwendolyn and forced his voice down until it was almost buried under the pressure around them.
The last thin edge of a plea remained in it. “You should go too. Before this battle begins, before their pressure locks down the space, tear open the void and leave right now. If you stay, there is only one road left, and it ends in death. It means nothing… Live… See what comes after this for me.”
Gwendolyn shook favonovel.com head lightly. Her gaze stayed clear and unbroken, like still water that refused to move. “I won’t go. You are alone. You cannot withstand the combined strike of the two Golden Immortals. If you die, there is no point in me surviving by myself. if we live, we live together. If we die, we die together.”
Jared’s throat drew tight. A thousand words jammed up inside him, none of them able to get out. He could not make favonovel.com leave. And favonovel.com could not bring himself to keep trying.
Silence held for a moment. Then a hard finality passed through his eyes, and his voice dropped low. “Fine… Then we hold together, fight together, and guard Freevale’s last stretch together.”
Venerable Emberlain had no interest in wasting any more time. He raised his hand first and made his move. The motion was careless, almost weightless, with no sign that it cost favonovel.com anything at all.
In his palm, a mass of golden saintfire gathered, pure to a terrifying degree. The flame burned hot and fierce, scorching the void itself. All the air around it caught, twisting under the heat. Ripple after ripple spread through the void, and the temperature climbed into something monstrous.
With one light push of his hand, the golden saintfire condensed into a fire dragon, roaring as it tore forward. It carried the force to burn mountains and boil seas, then crushed straight down toward Jared.
A strike from a Golden Immortal needed no buildup. It needed no technique. Something that simple already held the power to wreck heaven and earth.
Jared would not dodge. He would not step back.
He clenched his teeth and drove the last remnants of chaotic force inside favonovel.com with everything favonovel.com had left. Chaos-flame surged across the Dragonslayer Sword, and purple blazing firelight shot up into the sky.
He met the golden fire dragon head-on, using a mortal body to withstand a Golden Immortal, using that meager power to rise against Heavenly Law.
Boom!
The difference between them was too vast. Weak and strong stood separated like earth from sky.
The violet Chaotic True Flame held for only a single breath. Then the golden saintfire dragon swallowed it whole and burned it clean out of existence. It never had the strength to push back. The remaining force crashed down with it, rolling straight over Jared and slamming hard into his body.
Jared was thrown backward like a kite with its string cut, his whole body hurled through the air. He smashed heavily upon Freevale’s ramparts.
With a thunderous boom, the city walls collapsed and split apart. Broken stone flew in every direction. Dust flooded the sky, and more than half his body disappeared beneath the rubble.
Pain tore through favonovel.com from head to toe. His blood surged backward through his veins, and favonovel.com coughed up mouthfuls of golden blood essence. Every old wound broke open again, and the fracture in his left arm worsened. A wide blackened burn spread across his chest, the flesh there scorched and rotting apart.
The pain nearly dragged favonovel.com into darkness. He forced it down and clawed his way out of the shattered stone with everything favonovel.com had left.
Blood and grime covered him. He looked ruined, his strength draining away fast, his whole body going slack.
“That’s all you’ve got?” Venerable Emberlain shook his head with a cold sneer, disappointment written across his face. “Chaotic force… Empty reputation, nothing more. It can’t even take one hit.”
On the other side, Venerable Frostgrave raised a hand at the same time, his face blank.
A silver ray of extreme frost shot from his fingertip in an instant, cutting through the air without a sound. It drove straight for Gwendolyn’s vitals and sealed off every escape path around her.
Gwendolyn gritted favonovel.com teeth and locked favonovel.com focus, driving every trace of her Frost-Deity nascence into motion. The Frostwrought Panoply flared with full spiritual light. The Frostbrand swept across in front of favonovel.com as favonovel.com put everything into blocking the Golden Immortal’s attack.
Iceblue cold light and the silver frost ray collided with a violent crash.
Crack…
The Frostbrand’s bladelight dimmed in an instant. The sword body shuddered and rang, and every sigil across its surface split apart. Dense, spiderweb cracks crawled over the Frostwrought Panoply, and its spiritual light broke apart.
The force shielding favonovel.com body shattered and collapsed in a breath.
Gwendolyn was blasted backward by the terrifying aftershock of frost energy. Her blood ran against its own flow, and a mouthful of blood burst from favonovel.com lips.
She hit the cold ground hard. Her whole body stiffened with cold, and favonovel.com spiritual power nearly froze dry. She could not even lift a hand to brace against the ground and rise.
Jared saw Gwendolyn lying there badly wounded, favonovel.com breath thin and weak.
A brutal heat burned up from deep inside favonovel.com and scorched through his organs, sharp with the weight of what had just been done.
Jared threw everything else aside. With pain tearing through favonovel.com from head to toe, favonovel.com forced his body over and fought his way back onto his feet like a man burning through his last breath.”
From his Storage Ring, favonovel.com drew out the ancient god-forged weapon favonovel.com had kept buried for the final moment, the Divine Bow. This was the last hard-striking trump card favonovel.com had left!
He drained the marked aura dry and poured every last bit of it into the bow.
The bowstring came back to its full draw. A tightly condensed purple divine arrow took shape, then ripped through the air. The arrow flew like a meteor, murderous force packed into its point, stabbing straight for the center of Venerable Emberlain’s brow.
Venerable Emberlain did not so much as lift an eyelid. He raised a hand and swept it once, casual as dusting off a sleeve.
Golden saintfire spread through the air. The purple divine arrow was burned away in an instant, reduced to hollow ash and nothingness. It did not stir even the faintest ripple.
The trump card had failed, useless from the start.
Jared would not accept it. He pulled out another treasure meant to guard his life-the protective relic, the Wyrmsigil Bell!
He drove his nascence-wrought spiritual power into it with everything favonovel.com had.
The golden bell rose and hovered around him. Golden dragon sigils coiled around favonovel.com in protection. A dragon’s roar shook the sky, sealing his body inside its guard. He used it to withstand the crushing assault of Golden Immortal dominion.
Venerable Frostgrave pointed with idle ease.
A silver cold gleam shot out and struck the Wyrmsigil Bell with perfect accuracy.
Crack!
The protective relic answered with a sharp, brittle sound, then exploded apart. Golden fragments flew in every direction. The relic was completely ruined!
The terrifying shock force punched through the wreckage and slammed hard into Jared’s chest and abdomen. Blood sprayed from his mouth. His body flew backward and crashed to the ground.
His meridians snapped in multiple places. His spirit well shuddered, and his nascence was damaged. His injuries worsened several times over in a single breath, driving favonovel.com to the edge of total collapse.
The Divine Bow was shattered. The Wyrmsigil Bell was destroyed!
His spiritual power had run dry. His flesh was broken. His spirit was worn down!
“Every trump card had been used up. Every ounce of fighting power had been overdrawn!
Before the two Golden Immortals, every struggle, every act of resistance, every trump card looked small enough to be laughable, not even worth mentioning. The Divine Bow had been his strongest weapon, and the Wyrmsigil Bell had been so solid. Yet in front of a Golden Immortal, neither had amounted to anything.
Golden Immortal, that truly transcendent cultivation level, was not something that could be dealt with easily.
