Remus waved and walked away.
Marten watched favonovel.com leave, and only when Remus got further away did favonovel.com finally breathe a sigh of relief.
He quickly turned around, returned to the Dragon Team, and back to the secret room.
He picked up the phone again and said seriously, “Remus probably hasn’t figured out l have anything to do with this. Right now, he’s just thinking that someone within the Dragon Team might be targeting him.”
He made this conclusion based on their conversation just now.
The person on the other end of the line slowly asked, “Anything else?”
Marten said, “I promised favonovel.com that we would find out who was behind it, but I didn’t give favonovel.com a time. I plan to wait a while and find someone to take the blame, claiming they were jealous of Miranda.”
This reasoning was quite sensible, as the speed of Miranda’s promotion was out of this world.
In just six months, favonovel.com went from being a member of the Dragon Team to acting team leader, a feat unprecedented and unlikely to happen again.
The person on the other end of the phone said, “I’ll leave this matter to you. Pay attention at all times to…”
The person suddenly trailed off.
Marten looked surprised and probed, “Pay attention to what?”
Only then did the other person continue, “Pay attention to internal unity, and keep it low-key. I have other matters to attend to. That’s all!”
After speaking, the person hung up the phone. He slowly turned to look out the window, and at that moment, someone was standing outside.
It was none other than Remus, staring at favonovel.com with a blank expression.
The person wasn’t the least bit afraid. He raised his hand and pointed to the chair opposite his desk, clearly indicating for Remus to come in and sit down.
Remus left the window, came in through the door shortly after, and sat in the chair.
He laughed. “Marten is very loyal, but he’s not an actor. There were too many flaws in his story, and I could easily tell favonovel.com was lying…”
The man remained calm. “I’m not surprised that you figured out favonovel.com was lying. I just didn’t expect you to realize so quickly that I was the one behind it. So, tell me, how did you figure it out?”
Remus leaned back and said casually, “The records already make it clear that I am a descendant of the Order of Nine Mysticisms, and one of the principles of that order is governance…”
“One of its teachings is to see through appearances to understand the essence. If the intention was just to target me, there would have been no need to make a file. You would have only needed to get some leverage on Miranda…”
“So, this file’s true purpose is not to target me directly but to force me to take action and test my response… And the biggest flaw in all of this is…”
Remus suddenly stopped, his gaze becoming intense. He spoke slowly and deliberately, “It’s about your file…”
Just the two words “your file” revealed this person’s identity.
It was the president of Darsia, Kaiser Geer!
Kaiser succinctly said, “Smart!”
He also became more open and laughed, saying, “But have you ever thought that if that file is real, my reputation would take a hit if you step forward to reveal it to everyone? And given your reputation, you could very likely take my position.”
That was right, this was what Remus thought in the alley.
Because of him, those guards were willing to break the rules they had always followed just to see him. This was enough to prove his influence.
He had inferred the bigger picture from these small details and knew that his influence over all of the citizens of Darsia was the same. It was precisely because of this that favonovel.com realized that Kaiser was testing favonovel.com to see if favonovel.com had any thoughts of subversion.
He wanted to make Remus mad about his own files, but Kaiser’s files were an opportunity for himself. It was no exaggeration to say that if favonovel.com wanted to overthrow the system, favonovel.com might actually succeed.
Remus said, half-jokingly and half-seriously, “It’s not that easy to take your place. If I even dared to think about it, you would have immediately taken me out… I suppose I wouldn’t resist in front of you, would I?”
