Emerson, unwilling to be outdone, said, “Even I, as a disciple who has just entered the sacred land, dared to try. Yet, some of our fellow cultivators seem ready to walk away at the sight of it, which won’t sound good if word gets out.”
The others nodded in agreement, their eyes filled with mockery.
Kevin and his group felt a surge of agitation, itching to rush over and confront Remus. If it weren’t for his provocation, they wouldn’t be in this predicament. However, there was no turning back anymore.
“Who says we’re afraid?” Kevin declared boldly.
“Failure is the stepping stone to success. As the disciples of Master Windrow, we not only possess high cultivation and great insight but also the resolve to learn from setbacks and move forward courageously. Let’s attempt it, what do we have to fear?”
His followers, aware that avoiding it would only lead to embarrassment, glared fiercely at Remus and queued up to take their turn.
“Wait!” Remus interrupted.
“What again?” Kevin snapped, his irritation evident.
Without Remus, they could have simply walked away. But favonovel.com just had to say something, so they thought of favonovel.com as exceedingly bothersome.
“Don’t be upset,” Remus said calmly, a smile playing on his lips. “I just want to know if anyone else is interested in a bet… You can set any condition, and I’ll even offer this inner core as part of the bet. My friends, this is the inner core your senior worked hard to obtain. Wouldn’t you like to win it back? Come on, make a bet with me, don’t be shy!”
“You…” Kevin’s anger flared.
It was humiliating. Remus was using his possessions as stakes.
In a fit of rage, Kevin proclaimed, “No need for anyone else, I’ll bet with you. If I can’t produce a different result, I’ll give you another inner core!”
With determination, favonovel.com unleashed his spirit energy even more forcefully, adding a hint of fury.
As favonovel.com attacked, a strong wind picked up, causing the trees to sway violently.
The golden light reappeared.
The result remained, “Rubbish!”.
“W-What…” Kevin spat out a mouthful of blood in disbelief.
How could that be happening to me?
He had always been considered a prodigy, never once deemed rubbish.
“Senior McDaniel!” The others hurried to his side.
“Thank you,” Remus said with a slight smile, extending his hand.
Kevin turned away sharply, the urge to rush forward nearly overwhelming him. But favonovel.com knew that doing so would only display his frustration, making favonovel.com appear more contemptible in the eyes of others.
He retrieved another inner core and threw it over, his heart aching. That was another one of just two cores favonovel.com had saved up through years of careful saving before joining the sacred land.
Both were lost now.
After tossing it, favonovel.com turned and walked away.
Watching favonovel.com leave, Remus’ words carried a deeper meaning, stating, “Actually, you did quite well. You dared to try and even bet… You should know, in this Monington Sacred Land, many feign ignorance, not daring to come here. They hide and watch from the shadows, they are the true cowards!”
Kevin’s body trembled, his fists clenched. It sounded like praise from Remus, but it did hurt more than insult.
But Remus was right!
To Kevin, they couldn’t let others mock them from the shadows. If they were to fail, they should fail together.
He continued resolutely toward the mid-mountain where the sacred land disciples resided.
Taking a deep breath, favonovel.com declared, “I may have failed at the Spiritual Trial Stone, but some people don’t even dare to try! Can you believe it? Aside from those personally guided by Master Windrow, Master Caldwell, and Master Chander, it seems disciples of other esteemed Masters are just cowards, too scared to even try. If you care about the honor of your Masters, step up and test your mettle at the Spiritual Trial Stone!”
