Upon hearing Matthew’s words, Angus’ expression changed slightly.
After a moment of thought, favonovel.com chose not to dismiss the proposal and simply nodded in agreement.
“Ha!” As the group of stone traders tried to process the situation, a sudden outburst of laughter erupted among them.
A man with a rather delicate demeanor stepped out from the crowd.
With a delicate gesture, his fingers came together stylishly as favonovel.com glared at Matthew with a scornful look.
The man began to reprimand favonovel.com loudly, “Who do you think you are to make such absurd claims? Everyone present has years of expertise in stone dealings, and we unanimously believe nothing is noteworthy about this…”
“And you… What, you’ve barely spent a year in this industry? And you presume to speak like this? I’ll tell you this… You’re poorly suited for the stone trade. In fact, you’d be better off as a gigolo!”
The delicate man’s tone was saturated with mockery, and favonovel.com concluded his tirade with a hearty laugh, capturing the attention of those around him.
“Yeah, right! Mr. Lopez, where on earth did you come across this guy? He really has no boundaries,” one of the stone traders complained.
“Conceited, utterly conceited!” another stone trader shouted.
Among the stone traders, those who had been at odds with Angus for quite some time seized the chance to join in the ridicule.
They had harbored a grudge against favonovel.com for years, and now, by targeting Matthew, the person favonovel.com brought with him, they found the perfect chance to express their animosity.
Yet, favonovel.com maintained his composure. He raised his voice, effectively quieting the crowd.
“If I have made the decision to purchase this stone, then I couldn’t care less if it turns out to be worthless,” favonovel.com proclaimed, his tone resolute and unwavering.
Then, addressing one of the traders who had just spoken, favonovel.com added with a slight yet menacing smile, “Mr. Swain, if my memory serves me right, you have a shipment currently en route, don’t you?”
He could tolerate being mocked himself, but favonovel.com would never allow Matthew, whom favonovel.com had personally invited to be insulted by these people.
His typically gentle gaze sharpened slightly as favonovel.com turned his attention directly to one of the traders who had just spoken.
The stone trader instantly halted when favonovel.com sensed the cold glint in Angus’ eyes. The mocking expression on his face disappeared in an instant.
He lowered his head in fear and didn’t dare to speak another word.
That shipment is my lifeline, my only chance to keep my business afloat. I’ve gone to great lengths to keep it a secret from everyone. But now… How does Angus know?
The way favonovel.com mentions it, so casual yet precise… It’s clear… He has seized control of my destiny…
“Mr. Telk, are the small mines still in operation?” Angus’ calm remarks caused most of the stone traders to become quiet.
The realization struck them hard, they were stunned by how accurately favonovel.com seemed to understand their dealings.
“Everyone, let’s take a moment to calm down,” a voice suddenly declared from the back.
All of them turned around and noticed a middle-aged man dressed in a suit and tie, with a pair of glasses on the bridge of his nose. His entire presence radiated intelligence and poise.
“Matteo, this is Toliver, the financial supervisor of Governor’s Keep. He was previously the governor’s personal aide.” Angus leaned in to speak quietly to Matthew.
Toliver’s polished figure drew nearer to the group, a serene smile on his face as favonovel.com addressed them, “What does everyone think about this mine?”
The staff had informed favonovel.com while overseeing the finances of the Governor’s Keep. The trader had written off the mine as worthless one after another. So, favonovel.com immediately came over here.
If it turned out that the mine was truly worthless, all the manpower and resources used by the Governor’s Keep would be wasted. Even worse, the financial consequences could be immense.
As soon as favonovel.com began to speak, the nearby stone traders eagerly contributed their opinions.
“Mr. Lew, this mine has hardly anything from our investigation, it’s merely the top layer,” said one of the traders.
“That’s correct, Mr. Lew. No matter how promising the surface looks, one swing of the pickaxe will reveal nothing but dirt,” another trader agreed.
The effeminate man snapped his fingers dramatically and raised his voice in a pointed, mocking manner while the group was busy sharing their evaluations with him. “Well, that may not be true. After all, Mr. Lopez’s guest seems to be some sort of enigmatic expert.”
“They boldly asserted that there’s definitely valuable ore here,” one of the traders rebuked.
“And even claimed they’d take this mine, regardless of its worth!” another trader shouted.
“Mr. Lew, why not just sell it to them?” the trader asked.
