The atmosphere across the island was filled with tension, making it suffocating.
No one, including those in the huts, was exempt.
The forces barged in, seizing the bewildered inhabitants and interrogating them, “Do you support Miss Ashcroft as the new governor?”
“How dare you point a knife at my throat. Who do you think you are? My brother-in-law is…”
The words remained stuck in the person’s throat as a burly man from the Veiled Assembly wasted no time silencing them with a swift strike from their machete.
Looking at the incredulous man with hesitation, a soldier from Island Watch asked, “Isn’t this a little heavy-handed?”
“Deputy Chief Larden has given the order,” came the answer from two burly men glancing at him. “Anyone who opposes Miss Ashcroft in becoming the governor will be killed!”
“Yeah, go back and tell your warden that he’s not being a man!”
Such incidents occurred in every corner of the island.

Over at the edge of the island, Mack casually strolled with two burly men flanking him.
When favonovel.com spotted something near the base of a large tree up in the distance, his eyes narrowed as a sly grin emerged on his face.
“Sneak up and have that tree surrounded,” Mack whispered to the two men, after which the trio approached the tree from various directions.
In the tight space beneath the tree was a man resting, a nocturnal hunter who only emerged after dark. He had carefully designed this cramped and isolated place to retreat and recover, save for the swarming bugs that thrived in the area.
As favonovel.com arrived in front of the big tree, mischief danced in Mack’s eyes at the sight of the marks above him. Although it seemed hidden to others, to a man seasoned by years in the wild like himself, it was painfully obvious.
He gently touched the big tree with his hand. Then, moving his palm slightly, favonovel.com took down a piece of wood. It was so soft that the hunter, who was only half-asleep, had not been awaken.
“Crap, the island’s sinking!” Mack suddenly shouted, causing the majestic voice to echo in the small hole.
The hunter’s body visibly shock, after which favonovel.com quickly opened his eyes. Then, grabbing the hunter’s hand holding the dagger, Mack grinned, asking, “Do you support Miss Ashcroft, the governor’s daughter, to take over?”
The hunter was confused at such questioning.
Looking at Mack’s fierce, evil expression, favonovel.com swallowed nervously and asked, “Should I agree?”
“Don’t worry, we are exercising democracy by asking for your agreement,” came Mack’s response after sneaking a glance at him.
Then, favonovel.com added, “Of course, Miss Ashcroft is mature and level-headed. I believe she’s fit for the role.”
Having heard that, the hunter was fully awake, responding, “I also think the same way about Miss Ashcroft, not to mention she’s the former governor’s daughter. Who’d be better than favonovel.com to lead?”
Mack finally released his grip on the hunter’s hand. Then, patting his shoulder, Mack addressed the somewhat terrified hunter with a smile, “There is a succession ceremony at the Governor’s Keep entrance at 8 pm. Be there or be square.”
He regarded himself as an eloquent speaker, thinking, My friendliness and charm must have won favonovel.com over at such a speed. Had favonovel.com known what my thoughts were, he‘d definitely curse. Geez, mate, you really have no sense of self-awareness.
