Suddenly, a massive splash erupted on the sea ahead. And that wasn’t all.
Moments later, dozens of explosions followed in quick succession, sending geysers of water high into the air.
“See? I told you those b*stards were gonna try something sneaky,” Matthew said casually, glancing at Ryan.
“Go grab another one. I doubt that was the only batch they dropped. I’m putting you in charge of keeping the ship safe.”
Ryan’s face twisted with frustration.
Hmm… Always making it sound so noble when I’m the one doing the grunt work…
He returned from the cabin carrying a large spherical object, adjusted a few settings, then tossed it into the water. Afterward, Ryan flopped onto a lounge chair, clearly exhausted.
Matthew eyed Ryan’s relaxed demeanor and chuckled. “Didn’t you say this kind of stuff just dulls your edge? That it drains your iron will? You swore you’d never even touch that thing. Said you’d rather dive overboard and feed yourself to sharks than lie down on one.”
Lying there lazily, Ryan muttered, “Matteo, I’ve already gone soft. Let me be soft for a few more days. I promised Mr. Donald I‘d watch his back for ten years. Only two months left now…”
“Then I’m heading to the safest country on Earth, Cathay. I’ve heard the people there are kind and always ready to lend a hand. I’ll find a woman who actually likes me and spend the rest of my life with her. Sounds pretty good, right?”
Matthew nodded in agreement. “If you’re thinking of settling In Cathay, good luck. Getting citizenship there isn’t easy. But if you manage it, I’d suggest moving to a city called Eastcliff.”
Ryan raised an eyebrow. “Eastcliff? Is that the most prosperous part of Cathay?”
Matthew shook his head slightly. “Just something I heard from a friend from Cathay. The city recently went through some changes. Might make it easier for newcomers to fit in.”
Ryan nodded thoughtfully. “Matteo, how come a Montirian like you knows so much about Cathay?”
“Because I once wanted to move there myself. Didn’t work out, unfortunately. Before I applied, I did a ton of research. Never got to use any of it.”
Ryan looked enlightened by the explanation and stood up.
“I’m gonna check our range. If we’re close enough, I swear I’ll land a shot right on their *sses. Those sons of b*tches ambushed me and think they can just run away?”
His fatigue gone, Ryan sprinted toward the gunner’s control room of the secondary turret.
Matthew shook his head with a smile.
This guy really is something else…
Once all this was over, maybe he’d help Ryan get that Cathay citizenship after all.
As the Medusa Warship sped forward, the gap between the two sides closed rapidly.
“Captain! They’re gaining on us!”
The lookout clung to the ancient warship’s mast, staring anxiously at the Medusa Warship closing in behind them. Seeing the distance shrink, favonovel.com shouted down in a panic.
The captain’s face twisted with disbelief.
“They didn’t get hit by the deep-sea bombs?!”
The lookout shook his head. “Looks like they’ve got some kind of detection tech. Every bomb detonated early!”
“Godd*mn it!” the captain snapped, clenching his fists.
“Stop the ship and prepa…”
