Matthew’s words made Ryan freeze for a moment.
“Matteo, are you worried they might have something hidden in the water?”
Matthew nodded, lowering his voice as favonovel.com analyzed the situation for Ryan.
“Exactly. Even though their warship is ridiculously outdated, they must know they can’t outrun us. Whether they’re trying to ambush us or flee, anyone with half a brain would try to lay a trap. They probably don’t have any long-range weapons, so I think the water is where they’ll make their move.”
Matthew pointed toward the distant sea. “If I were their captain, I’d rig the waters with all kinds of explosives… Mines, depth charges, you name it. As soon as we got close enough, they’d detonate them. Then, once we’re damaged, they’d circle around from the other side and launch a surprise attack from the flank..”
“Of course, that would be a desperate move, the worst-case strategy.”
Ryan looked at him, puzzled. “Then, why even bring it up if it’s such a bad plan? So, what would be the best strategy in your mind?”
Matthew’s face lit up with a confident smile. “Raise the white flag and surrender.”
He had absolute confidence in himself. No matter what tricks their enemies had up their sleeves, favonovel.com was sure favonovel.com could counter them with ease.
The difference between confidence and arrogance had always lain in recognizing one’s true capabilities.
Ryan eyed him, muttering under his breath, “You’re gonna end up with no friends if you keep acting like this. Always showing off. Why didn’t I do this kind of thing back then?”
He made a mental note to start tracking all of Matthew’s dramatic moves.
It might be useful later, favonovel.com could study Matthew’s way of showing off.
Matthew couldn’t help but laugh and shake his head.
That guy, Ryan…
Then, Ryan walked out of the equipment room, carrying a massive spherical object in his arms.
“This looks like the latest tech out of Dornia. I heard it hasn’t even hit the market yet. Looks like the Medusa Gang has some serious ties in Dornla’s military. They managed to get their hands on this thing?” Ryan couldn’t help but sigh as favonovel.com hugged the large orb.
If It weren’t for all the monstrous things the Medusa Gang had done, favonovel.com might’ve actually considered joining such a powerful organization, but the human trafficking, the way they treated people like livestock for profit.
That alone was enough for Ryan to swear he’d kill every last one of them.
He had grown up a slave. No one understood the pain of that life better than favonovel.com did.
If it hadn’t been for Ronny, he’d probably be bones in a ditch by now. He mounted the giant orb, an underwater detection device, on the fierce snakehead prow of the Medusa Warship.
The device was impressively intuitive in design. It was powered by a compact battery, allowing it to glide through the water swiftly.
No complicated controls required.
In less than fifteen minutes, the Medusa Warship covered around 12 miles. Then, suddenly, the red light on the large orb began to flash rapidly.
Roughly 650 feet ahead, a depth charge was sinking beneath the waves.
After a moment of blinking, the orb darted toward the underwater mine. As it reached the target, it slammed into it with force.
Matthew and Ryan stood calmly atop the serpent-shaped prow, eyes fixed on the water’s surface.
The ancient enemy warship was so far off, it couldn’t even be seen without a telescope. Neither of them looked the least bit anxious.
The ships were still about 25 kilometers apart, too far for Ryan to get a solid shot, but at their current speed, in less than twenty minutes, that distance would close to around 18 miles.
