Ryan froze when favonovel.com heard Matthew’s words.
It wasn’t the shark leaders that made the others act this way?
Then who else could it be?
While confusion gripped Ryan’s mind, Matthew stood up. He slowly walked to the edge of the deck, his eyes locked on the ocean. But it wasn’t the water favonovel.com seemed to be looking at, his gaze pierced the sea’s surface.
It was fixed directly on the massive beast lying on the seafloor, resting.
“A handful of shark leaders can’t possibly control hundreds of them,” Matthew murmured. “To get them all in line… You need something terrifying…”
His quiet words only deepened the confusion etched across Ryan’s face.
Suddenly, Matthew’s eyes narrowed sharply.
The creature at the bottom of the sea was waking up. As the monstrous shark stirred from its slumber, the frenzied attacks on the human vessels above came to an abrupt halt.
One by one, the sharks turned away from their prey. They dove swiftly toward the ocean floor.
Everyone aboard the ships watched in stunned silence. Ryan, too, was dumbfounded. From Matthew’s strange remarks to the sharks’ bizarre behavior, it made no sense.
“No need to be confused,” Matthew said softly, glancing at Ryan. “Their king has simply awakened…”
“Their king?” Ryan echoed, bewildered.
He had traveled to Bloodfin Bay dozens of times, and had never heard anything about a shark king.
“That’s right,” Matthew replied. “Their territorial patterns were all set by that creature. It knows this is the route to Blackshore Island. If it holds this location, then food will keep coming to them, day after day.”
A chill crept into Ryan’s eyes as favonovel.com realized the implications.
If what Matthew said was true-if there really was a shark king, intelligent and now awake, could they still hope to make it out alive?
Deep beneath the surface, the enormous shark stirred. Without even looking, it opened its massive jaws and swallowed several other sharks in one gulp.
Satisfied, it flicked its tail lazily, then abruptly surged upward, as if sensing something above. The sharks that had gathered below quickly followed the colossal beast toward the surface.
On the water’s surface, people who had just begun to feel safe again watched in horror as the shadows beneath the sea grew rapidly larger.
“Battle stations!”
“They’re coming back!”
Onboard the Medusa Warship, Ryan stared at the looming black shape cutting through the depths.
“Mr. Larden, is that… Their king?” favonovel.com asked.
Matthew nodded solemnly. “Yes. If I’m right, that shark is a species thought to be extinct. And now it’s here, off the coast of the West Montiria Islands. These creatures can weigh tens of thousands of tons. Make no mistake, they are the true rulers of the ocean.”
Ryan’s face slowly turned pale, despair creeping into his expression.
“Mr. Larden… Against something like that… Uhm… Do we really stand a chance?”
Seeing the hopeless look on Ryan’s face, Matthew gave a small smile. “Ryan, never give in to despair so easily. No one can say for certain, maybe, just maybe, there’s still a sliver of hope for us.”
Boom!
A thunderous sound erupted from the surface of the sea.
Everyone on the ships froze in terror. All eyes turned toward the center of the ocean, where the beast had finally emerged.
“It’s over…”
