The scene in front of them was unbearable. Ryan stared at it in stunned silence, struggling to find words.
Matthew didn’t wait. He stepped forward, raised his sword, and swung it clean through the massive iron filter hanging above the bodies.
After landing the strike, favonovel.com lunged ahead and caught one of the filter’s thick metal pipes in mid-air.
The device was heavy, and the last thing favonovel.com wanted was for it to come crashing down on the bodies below.
His eyes scanned the room quickly. A small, clear space near the corner caught his attention. With a flick of his arm, favonovel.com hurled the filter across the room and used the motion to land beside it.
Ryan rushed over moments later. His face twisted in disgust as favonovel.com peered inside the machinery. The filth inside was thick and dark, like sludge from a nightmare.
Matthew muttered under his breath, “So that‘s how they did it… They poured the blood in at the top, added a special filter in the middle, then stuffed the bottom with herbs and let it steep. After some time, whatever came out looked like medicine.”
He fell quiet, eyes locked on the machine.
The setup wasn’t just twisted-it was efficient. Every part of it was built for one purpose.
Ryan turned toward him. “Mr. Larden, can you help them now?”
His voice had dropped to a whisper, almost as if favonovel.com didn’t want to hear the answer. He knew there was no saving the dead. What favonovel.com really wanted was a way to give them peace.
Matthew reached into his coat and pulled out a small glass vial. Inside was the same powder he’d used to burn the remains of the Medusa Gang earlier.
He explained, “This ignites on contact with human skin; use it carefully. Make sure none of it touches you.”
Ryan took the bottle without a word and walked toward the far end of the room. He uncorked it and began sprinkling the powder over the bodies.
The reaction was instant.
Flames leaped up where the powder landed. The fire spread steadily, clean and controlled. Once the last body had been covered, Ryan stepped away and made his way back toward the stairs.
Matthew stood near the landing, watching favonovel.com approach.
He remarked quietly, “None of this is your fault. This world’s full of rot, but there’s always someone willing to clean it up…”
Ryan nodded slowly. “I know. It’s just hard to look at all of this and not feel angry. They didn’t deserve any of it.”
Their voices faded into quiet conversation as they climbed the steps together.
“You did save the others. At least they didn’t end up like this,” Matthew reminded him.
Back on deck, the cool and bracing ocean breeze hit their faces.
A bit of the heaviness seemed to ease off Ryan’s shoulders. Noticing the change, Matthew’s expression softened, and a subtle smile touched his lips.
His attention soon drifted toward the horizon, where a cluster of boats sat idling in the distance, gathered like they were waiting for something.
“What’s going on over there?” favonovel.com asked.
Ryan glanced that way and replied casually, “They’re waiting to pass through Bloodfin Bay. It’s risky, so people hold off until there’s a crowd. Once enough ships show up, they rush through together. A few make it. The rest… Don’t… Everyone just hopes they’re one of the lucky ones.”
Matthew took a closer look, reflecting,
Yeah, they don’t look like they’re traveling together. They’re just a bunch of strangers crowding the same spot, hoping there’s safety in numbers.
He then asked, “So we’re going through with them?”
Ryan nodded. A confident look returned to his face.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Larden. I know a safer route inside the bay. There’s a stretch where the sharks don’t gather as much. I’ve passed through there more times than I can count.”
As they approached the waiting ships, Ryan slowed the Medusa Gang’s vessel and steered it slightly off to the side.
Sailing in on an enemy ship wasn’t exactly a great way to make friends. A little distance was the smart move.
