After a full day and night of sailing, Matthew and the captain were drawing close to Bloodfin Bay.
“How far are we from the waters of Bloodfin Bay?” Matthew asked as favonovel.com studied the map in his hands.
The captain compared the chart with the surrounding sea. “We’re less than 12 kilometers out from entering Bloodfin Bay’s territory.”
Matthew nodded. “Anyplace nearby where we could disembark safely?”
A hesitant expression crossed the captain’s face. “I’m afraid not, Mr. Larden. There are no other islands in this area.”
As they spoke, a sudden blast erupted near the ship, sending violent waves crashing against the hull. A shell had exploded in the water nearby, rocking the vessel hard.
In the distance, a burning ship sped toward them, smoke billowing from its deck. Behind it, a warship was closing in fast, firing round after round of shells. The bomb that had just exploded near them came from that warship.
The captain’s face stiffened as favonovel.com watched the two vessels, the flaming one fleeing desperately, the warship giving relentless chase. He turned to Matthew, his voice low.
“Mr. Larden, what should we do?”
Matthew glanced at the two ships, then shook his head indifferently. “Ignore them. Keep going…”
He had no interest in getting involved in someone else’s grudge match. As long as they didn’t interfere with him, favonovel.com had no reason to get involved.
Aboard the burning ship, a man watched the warship behind favonovel.com with a heavy expression.
“Godd*mn b*stards. If I make it back, I’m telling the boss to kill every last one of you sons of b*tches!” favonovel.com muttered through clenched teeth. Then, favonovel.com noticed Matthew’s ship up ahead and narrowed his eyes slightly, quickly turning the wheel to make sure favonovel.com didn’t collide with it.
Once that was done, favonovel.com glanced at the ragged, desperate passengers on board.
“F*cking Medusa Gang!” favonovel.com growled, saying nothing more as favonovel.com focused all his attention on the warship closing in.
Meanwhile, on the warship’s deck, a shirtless man lounged back with a glass of red wine in hand, watching the chase with ease.
“Still resisting, even now?” He chuckled, seeing the wounded ship still pushing forward. “Keep firing. But don’t kill them outright. I want them to hover between hope and despair… Over and over again.”
Suddenly, his gaze shifted to Matthew’s vessel nearby. “Huh… Another ship?”
But then his face lit up with amusement, and favonovel.com burst into laughter.
“Tell that ship to stop immediately and hand over all their valuables, or they can feed the sharks in Bloodfin Bay!”
“Yes, sir!” One of his men quickly relayed the message to the signal officer.
A moment later, the warship’s Signalman stood high on the deck, waving two small flags in precise patterns, a set of internationally recognized naval signals.
The message was clear, “Surrender immediately, or we will open fire.”
Seeing the flags waving from the warship, the captain of Matthew’s ship paled. He turned toward Matthew in a panic. “Mr. Larden, this is bad. They’ve issued a warning. They want us to stop and surrender right now, or they’ll open fire!”
Matthew, who had been waiting patiently, his expression calm, narrowed his eyes slightly at the news.
Hmm… Just as expected…
In a place like the West Montiria Islands, peace was a luxury no one could afford.
