Aboard the vessel, Matthew studied the nautical chart in his hands.
“If we want to reach Blackshore Island, we’ll have to pass through Bloodfin Bay and the Deep Sea Zone?” favonovel.com asked, glancing up at the captain standing ahead of him.
“That’s right, Mr. Larden. But you might not understand just how terrifying those two areas are.” A flicker of fear crossed the captain’s face. “Take Bloodfin Bay, for example, every year, hundreds of thousands die there. Even several massive cargo ships have gone down in that bay.”
Cargo ships?
Matthew quirked a brow, intrigued.
But they’re just sharks… How can fully reinforced cargo ships go down there?
“Oh, you won’t believe it, Mr. Larden. The sharks in Bloodfin Bay can bring down massive vessels. Normal sharks act alone, but the ones in Bloodfin Bay are organized. Sometimes, a thousand sharks will ignore everything else just to attack a single ship. That‘s why there are so many shipwrecks every year.”
The captain seemed to remember something as his face turned pale.
“And the sharks there? Huge. Each one is between 16 and 22 feet long-some even grow to 100 feet. Their teeth can tear a person apart like it’s nothing.”
Matthew’s brows knit slightly.
If what the captain said was true, then the sharks were indeed a serious threat, especially for smaller vessels like the one they were on now.
Still, for Matthew, they were more of a nuisance than anything truly dangerous. If favonovel.com wanted to go on a killing spree, even a swarm of sharks wouldn’t be enough to stop him.
“No need to worry,” favonovel.com said calmly. “Once we reach Bloodfin Bay, you can disembark and return on another ship.”
Matthew could tell the captain had no intention of pushing forward. So, favonovel.com offered reassurance directly.
He knew enough about operating a vessel that, even on his own, favonovel.com could navigate safely to Blackshore Island.
The captain’s expression immediately lit up with relief. “Thank you, Mr. Larden!”
Truth be told, if Corey hadn’t personally shown up at his home to request it, the captain would’ve never taken this job. It was far too dangerous.
The survival rate through Bloodfin Bay was only 35%. And for the Deep Sea Zone, it dropped to a mere 10%. That was part of the reason why Blackshore Island had earned its grim name.
Its coastline was lined entirely with jagged cliffs and steep bluffs, there was no way to land on foot. This route was the only way in.
“Mr. Larden,” the captain said seriously, “If you plan to pass through Bloodfin Bay and then into the Deep Sea Zone… You must do it during the day. Nighttime-there’s something unspeakably terrifying.”
The weight of his words lingered heavily In the air.
The West Montiria Islands sat deep within the western ocean. Their formation had been a geological anomaly, which also led to the presence of unusually deep zones beneath certain waters.
In those places, the ocean floor was over 32,000 feet below the surface. And in such extreme environments, monstrous creatures had evolved naturally.
“There was once a cargo ship-big, solid, made of reinforced steel. They tried to cross the Deep Sea Zone at night, thinking their size would keep them safe. At first, everything seemed fine. But halfway through, something massive, something horrific, rose from the depths. A single, enormous tentacle surged out of the sea and latched onto the ship.
“Then came dozens more… They climbed aboard, writhing and crashing down with such force that the entire ship-made of solid iron-started twisting and breaking apart.”
“There were over 2,000 people on that ship. Only one survived. He barely made it out alive. And according to him… That thing was an octopus.”
