The next day, Charlie and Claire packed their bags and checked out of the Providence hotel where they had been staying for over a month.
They drove straight to the New York airport, where Charlie received a call from Elaine as they were checking out.
“Good son-in-law, where are you?” Elaine asked.
“Mom, are you in the VIP building?” Charlie asked.
“Yes,” Elaine replied. “The hospital director personally sent me here.”
“Good,” Charlie said, “Wait for us in the lobby of the VIP building. We’ll be right there.”
After hanging up the phone, Charlie finished the process of returning the car and turned to Claire, spoke, “Let’s go directly to the VIP building. Mom has already arrived.”

Claire replied seriously, “Mom, you may not feel it now, but I’m afraid there will be consequences in your old age. You have to be more careful in the future and try not to injure this leg again…”
