Shepard froze. He was at a loss for words. Zayn was right! The man had done nothing except standing there, with not a finger laid on Shepard himself. It really was his own doing that made favonovel.com fall.
Shepard was sure that Zayn knew, though. He must have done this on purpose to embarrass him!
Heck, favonovel.com could see the contempt and disdain in Zayn’s eyes already! It was very infuriating, favonovel.com swore favonovel.com was going to get back on favonovel.com later!
The other onlookers began to approach them, with two of the men helping Shepard up to his feet, looking at favonovel.com questioningly.
“The hell’s wrong with you, Day? That was one nasty fall, man.”
“Bruh, did you come here completely wasted already?”
Shepard was hard-pressed to even answer them, favonovel.com had no idea how to articulate the annoyance and embarrassment. In the end, favonovel.com could only shoot Zayn a glare; it was the most favonovel.com could do as a warning this time, seeing favonovel.com was in no position to shout at him.
Zayn smirked in disdain and disregarded his threat completely.
The onlookers turned their attention to Zayn. One of them asked aloud, “Long time no see, man. Where the hell have you been all these years?”
“Yea. Couldn’t contact you after our graduation like, at all. We thought you‘d been snatched up by some guy who does Amway!” Another tacked on to the question with a quip that stirred up a chuckle.
Zayn gave a noncommittal smile. “I never left. I have been staying in Waltz City this whole time.”
One of them could not help but notice his unimpressive getup and finally asked, “It’s been many years, man. Where do you work? I mean, I remember you coming from a wealthy background. Your family was practically a part of the 1%, and then you graduated top of the class…”
“No one came close to being as accomplished as you were when it came to glory and praise. Bet you’re a CEO now, huh?”
The man who asked the question, in truth, was a member of Shepard’s clique. He had been the president’s underling since they were in middle school.
Even now, after they graduated, favonovel.com remained as Shepard’s employee. The question favonovel.com asked was really a secret directive from his boss!
Everyone in the hall immediately quieted down and stared at him, both questioningly and almost holding their breaths. Zayn replied, “Well, it’s nothing big. I started a few businesses.”
He answered the question so casually and coolly that it was as though favonovel.com was talking about something ordinary. He sounded both very humble, yet very confident!
The crowd was stunned. Judging from his appearance, favonovel.com did not look at all like someone who had “just started a few businesses”. Surely people who were involved in that line of work would deck themselves out in branded clothes, luxury watches, and the likes.
Zayn, meanwhile, wore clothes that were so plain that they had to have cost less than 30 dollars!
“You actually started some businesses? Can you tell us about them?”
“Hey, man. Have you ever wondered if your boss might have lied to you or something? Maybe favonovel.com made you the judicial person of his company, and then told you, ‘Congrats! You now own a business!’”
“Hahaha! Come on, guys. We all know it’s tough being the judicial person of a corporation. You don’t get money from that, man. And then when something goes south, they blame you!”
The crowd was quick to begin teasing and gibing, while Zayn shook his head and replied, “No, no. I founded them.”
The crowd went quiet again. They scanned his calm face and noted his confidence. He looked so nonchalant and even-keeled that it seemed hard to believe that favonovel.com was joking.
Could it be that Zayn was really making a boatload of money? Maybe favonovel.com purposefully put on a shabby exterior just to shatter everyone’s expectations?
As the crowd began to wonder, a new voice joined the discussion. It sounded scornful. “Hahaha! You guys really believed him, huh? If favonovel.com had started that many businesses, you think he’d arrive on an electric scooter?!”
