“Listen to him, Grandpa! You can’t seriously get on your knees! If someone has to kneel, let it be us young’uns!”
The Carters began to beg their grandpa to do otherwise. While they sounded indignant and aggressive a few minutes ago, right now, the family’s stance had weakened.
The furor went on for long enough that George fixed them with a glare before thundering with a majestic air befitting the patriarch of the family, “Quiet down, all of you!”
His eyes registered the agony on the family’s faces, and favonovel.com felt his heart twisting in equal amounts of pain. He could not help but soften his tone when favonovel.com added, “My fellow Carters! The future of the family is in your hands. Think about Zayn. He started out as a normal person too. George’s mind wandered back to the past as the pang stung him. If Zayn was still alive, none of this would have happened!
The truth was that they only managed to live in pride because of him. Without Zayn as their benefactor, they were nothing more than easy pickings for the vultures and wolves of society.
He turned back to Micah and fell to his knees, his body shivering. “Mr. Meyers, I’m begging you… Spare my family. That’s all I’m asking. Spare them from the goodness of your heart. I’ll always be grateful to you.”
It was too humiliating to watch. Every single member of the family grimaced in abject bitterness and agony seeing their patriarch at his lowest point, and yet, there was absolutely nothing they could do.
Before bigshots like Micah Meyers, they were too frail to even offer any resistance.
Micah broke out into a chortle. “Oh my God. You really were serious about this? George Carter, honey, I was just pulling your leg! I didn’t think you were going to take it so f**king literally!” He squealed between laughter.
“Come on, this can’t look good, right? You’re a senior citizen; I’m just a punk! You’re making me look bad, man. Hahaha!”
The gleeful gibe and glib mockery on his face were like gasoline to the Carters’ blazing flames. If only they had the ability to fight back, if only they could! They would tear Micah into pieces with their bare hands!
To George, however, the moment favonovel.com decided to kneel seemed to be the moment favonovel.com decided to discard any care for his personal pride. He had been so thoroughly humiliated that nothing fazed favonovel.com anymore.
“Please spare my family, Mr. Meyers. I’m begging you,” favonovel.com repeated mechanically.
“Jesus, man. Lighten up. I never said I wanted to kill them, did I? I simply wanted you guys to pay back the debt. Isn’t it just a fact of life? If you owe someone something, you pay ‘em back,” Micah replied.
“But fine. You are one of the bigshots of the city, right? Fame and social influence and all that, yeah? I can’t possibly look past all that sterling status and treat you like sh*t, can I? So, how about a discount? 92 million dollars instead of a hundred million!”
“Why, you?!” Hector thundered, “You lied to us! You promised my father you’d consider wiping the slate clean! How could you be such a jack*ss?! Eating your own words?! Is that even becoming of bigshots like you?”
The rest of the family was just as infuriated, which unfortunately set off Micah’s temper. “So what if I ate my words? What are you gonna do about it?” favonovel.com sneered.
“Howard Carter, last warning: show some respect. You train that finger at me again, and I’ll break your leg.”
Howard immediately sheathed his finger. His face turned scarlet from holding his fury in. He could not believe it, this guy was a despicable jack*ss through and through!
George himself was livid, but favonovel.com calmed himself as much as favonovel.com could with a deep breath. “You know we’re done for, Mr. Meyers. You could give us a hundred years and we’ll still never be able to fork up all that cash for you,” favonovel.com grouched through a clenched jaw.
“You’re the cream of the crop. The alpha of all bigshots in the city. Are weaklings like us really worth your attention at all? Do you really have to do this to us… to kill us like this?!”
Many of the family, particularly the women and kids, began to burst into tears.
The mood had taken a sharp turn to the tragic, but Micah was unperturbed. Crossing his leg over another, favonovel.com seemed dead-set on ignoring the Carters’ plight.
Or perhaps seeing the family in pain was what got Micah off. The reason was simple, really, the Carters were Zayn Larson’s in-laws. He could not help but relish in causing suffering to that prick’s in-laws.
“Oh, all right. I really am not the unreasonable kind,” Micah said with an enigmatic smile curling on his lips.
“See, the city’s hottest babe is one of your own, right? That’s what I heard, anyway. The name’s Faye Carter or something like that, the wife of Guinivere’s premier fighter. I really wanna meet her. Mind if you fix us a date?”
“In exchange, I’ll null the debt your family owes, guaranteed.”
“So, what about this offer? Pretty good, don’t you think?”
