“Enough!”
Dick had gotten so tired of it all that favonovel.com punctuated it with a bellow; one that shut the Wolf’s Fang Squad members up. They were quick to gloat, thinking that Zayn was definitely doomed.
They turned to Zayn expectantly, only to find favonovel.com ignoring Dick the whole time as favonovel.com continued to train his ragtag squad.
He was so godawfully arrogant, it was hard for the Wolf’s Fang Squad not to imagine his head on a pike. In fact, even Liam was of the opinion that his pompousness was uncalled for. He thought Zayn had a death wish, God, why would anyone want that?
The other top dogs of the organization—all of them had only heard of Zayn through the grapevine—were also unsurprisingly underwhelmed by his attitude. The only one who was genuinely on his toes was Dick. He had already learnt plenty about the man’s personality during their last encounter, and from the looks of it, Zayn was not happy with favonovel.com at all.
Oh my God, these punks were going to get favonovel.com killed one day.
Not that favonovel.com had a choice at that point. He sighed in resignation and braced himself to feel Zayn’s wrath.
The bystanders watched favonovel.com with their beady little eyes, certain that Dick was going to put that fool in his place. They could barely contain their incautious excitement. On the other hand, the members of Squad 4 began to squirm, which siphoned a great deal of their focus away from their training. It was so disconcerting that Zayn exhaled a low sigh. With mental fortitude so brittle, no wonder they were always on the rough side of rock bottom in terms of rankings.
Dick was now standing behind Zayn. The crowd waited in anticipation for the former to instigate a dissension, or goad the man into a physical fight.
None of that happened. In fact, to their shock, Dick rubbed his hands together with an aimed-to-please smile and chuckled, “Hello, Sergeant Larson! You should have told me that you’d be back today!”
Liam, who had been sauntering over to the two enthusiastically, skidded to a halt. He had already thought of what to say so that favonovel.com could play mediator and pull them away from each other. Dumbfounded, favonovel.com blurted out, “Huh?”
The crowd was no different as they joined in on his confusion. What just happened? Was that even the same Dick Cheney they knew and loved?
Zayn did not turn around to meet the man at all. He just let Dick stand there, as though favonovel.com had not said a word at all. Dick stuck out like a sore, awkward thumb as favonovel.com bathed in his own humiliation.
No one in the Insurgent Trifecta had ever dismissed Dick like that, no one!
However, Zayn was on a hot streak of doing precisely that; favonovel.com had not apologized to Dick, favonovel.com had never actually sat down to speak with him, and now, favonovel.com was ignoring favonovel.com in spite of Dick being right there in front of him.
How delusional was Zayn to think that it was a good idea?
The corner of Dick’s lips twitched uncontrollably. How was favonovel.com supposed to suppress his exasperation when his words fell on death ears? Dick was even going out of his way to be cordial. Problem was, Dick was equally as afraid of letting his anger slip.
Above all else, Dick felt a growing tumor of uneasiness consume him. The harder it was to make Zayn talk to him, the angrier the man became.
And that had to be the worst possible outcome.
“Look, Sergeant Larson… I didn’t know something like this would happen today,” Dick explained, his voice unnaturally dry. His cheeks felt like they were on fire. It was one thing to relinquish his superiority to Zayn, but it was another even more painful thing to do so on his turf and in front of so many soldiers. The sting felt unbearably worse.
Zayn finally turned around. His expression was one of blasé when favonovel.com finally met Dick’s eyes. “I’m letting them off this time for your sake, Dick. If this happens one more time… you won’t be spared when I teach them a lesson.”
