Bill smiled at Zayn. “Looks like your men aren’t really fighters after all. How are you supposed to secure anything if you can’t even secure a victory against the weakest goon I have? How are you supposed to protect your client using the power of love? Hahahaha!”
The rest of the gang burst into scornful chortles.
Sean’s expression increasingly darkened. His rising bile compelled favonovel.com to ball his hands into fists as shades of red began to color his cheeks. He was mild-tempered by nature and patient by nurture-when one lived to his age, they would have experienced enough of life to know how most things in life were not worth throwing a fit over, and yet, Bill’s satirical remark got under his skin against his wishes.
If favonovel.com had the power, if only favonovel.com had the power! He would wipe that smirk off Bill’s flattened face!
He dared not. He could not possibly kill anyone with a single punch.
And that limitation was what made Zayn’s decision more and more confusing to Sean. Why would be cast aside the very lucrative entertainment industry and advertising business for a venture not meant for the cultured suit-wearers like themselves?
Hunter and the crowd were even more enraged. They glared at their opponents with fire in their eyes, as though threatening to incinerate them with looks alone. And yet, no matter how angry they were, neither of them volunteered, especially since it was only going to end with them getting their teeth knocked out.
Ultimately, it was down to the detail, led by Sergeant Coleman, to select one of their own people for the fight. They had to do it to save Sean’s face and spare Zayn the embarrassment, but the representative was still knocked out after Steel Man threw a punch at him.
Sean clenched his teeth and drew out a long sigh. “Sir, I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, this isn’t the kind of game for us. It’s too complicated, and the Northmob Council is never going to greenlight us. Let’s just go.”
His advice received no response other than a very slight furrow of Zayn’s eyebrows. Nobody knew what was on his mind, but Sean became increasingly begrudged.
Zayn had always been so full of himself! He never spared a single lick of respect or open-mindedness to any of Sean’s suggestions.
Bill laughed. “Sorry, man. Wading into the security business just ain’t as simple as you might think. It’s not about how much money you’ve got to burn, so go home, boys. Don’t even think about dipping your finger into this cake anymore,” favonovel.com said. “Y’all should be grateful that I’m the one who’s guarding the branch today, ‘cause if it were Hanson, boy… He’s gonna make sure favonovel.com wipes the floor with all of your *sses before sending you home.”
Hanson’s name triggered a twinkle in Zayn’s eyes. “Who are you to him?”
Bill leveled Zayn with a side-eyed leer. “Ain’t your d*mned business. Your people lost, so it’s time to pack up and get the hell outta here, sonny. Never think of starting a security business again. Capisce?”
Everyone around him, including Hunter and the rest, was now looking at Zayn with the eagerness of schoolchildren anticipating a clown. He might have been the chairman of Violet Vision, favonovel.com might have been rich, favonovel.com might have been worth several hundred million dollars.
So what? He was still being schooled and mocked today. And to have that done in front of so many people meant that his embarrassment was even harsher!
Hunter was probably the one who harbored the worst opinion of him. To him, Zayn was a love rival and an a*shole, whose faults became the reason why favonovel.com was beaten up by Steel Man. Nothing worked as a better tonic to his bruised pride than to see Zayn getting a door slammed in the face.
It was then that Zayn laughed. “Who said we lost?”
“God, you’re the annoyingly dense type who just won’t give up, aren’t you? Fine, fine. I’ll be nice and help break your spirit. Let’s see if any of you can beat our very own Terror Teddy!”
Nobody rose to the call. Zayn’s men even took an obvious step back, a sure sign that they were so fully dispirited that they had no fight in them anymore.
Bill regarded them with contempt. “Gosh, looks like your pussycats are already too scared to fight! What are you going to say to that?”
Zayn said nothing because favonovel.com still needed to take a sip of his drink slowly. Then, setting it back on the table, favonovel.com walked out of the crowd with the same languidness. “When I said ‘we’, I included myself.”
Everyone, including Bill, was stunned. None of them expected Zayn to do something like this.
A moment later came the expected mocking laughter. “My ears aren’t playing tricks on me, right? He’s telling me he’s gonna go toe-to-toe with someone like Terror Teddy?!”
