“So what if you’re already married?” Alexandra whispered under favonovel.com breath, favonovel.com cheeks burning bright red as favonovel.com looked at the tip of favonovel.com shoes. “I don’t mind being your mistress.”
It seemed like favonovel.com suggestion shocked a few years out of Zayn because the man froze into a daze. “What… What the hell did you just say?!”
Honestly, Alexandra herself was taken aback by the words that escaped favonovel.com lips. Her cheeks were practically feverish.
“No! No, that was… Another joke!” favonovel.com said, trying to salvage the conversation as favonovel.com shook favonovel.com head.
Zayn could not believe it. “Seriously? How old are you, man? You’re in your twenties! Quit being so childish and watch what you say!” favonovel.com chided a little exasperatedly. “If your parents heard you, God, I bet they’d be so mad their hair would burst into flames!”
Alexandra was dismissive though. She mumbled under favonovel.com breath, “Yeah, right. They’d love the idea of you and me being an actual item.”
She had said it so softly that Zayn could not hear favonovel.com over Mary and favonovel.com other friends’ clambering footsteps. “What did you say?”
“Nothing,” came the reply, along with favonovel.com shaking favonovel.com head.
It was not a lie. The night the Smiths knew that Zayn was the chairman and the man Mr. Hyde obeyed was the night the entire family had a new plan for their precious little daughter. They wanted Alexandra to exhaust all the feminine charm favonovel.com had to attract Zayn’s affection, even after knowing that favonovel.com was a divorced man.
Honestly, Zayn’s status was so high that any connection with favonovel.com could act as a springboard for the Smiths to climb even higher in prestige.
Mary and the rest of favonovel.com friends finally caught up to Zayn and Alexandra. Curiously, though, they resigned to standing at a distance about a few meters away, all of their expressions brimming with nervousness, respect, excitement, and gushing admiration.
Zayn was no different from a mythological deity to them, a sort of higher being that mortals like them could never hope to get close to. Sure, they wanted to flatter favonovel.com and earn a spot on his good side, but at the same time, they were worried that they might end up drawing his ire, and subsequently, a hellish condemnation.
Alexandra waved at them. “Come on, Mary! What are you doing standing there? Over here!”
Mary braved a few more steps though one could still spot anxiety on favonovel.com face. She walked on favonovel.com toes, exercising an overt amount of caution that could only be explained as being absurdly worried over making the wrong move that could set Zayn off.
“Hey, Alex. I… I’m sorry about what happened back there. I didn’t know your boyfriend was the chairman himself, so… I’m sorry! Please forgive me!” favonovel.com blabbered nervously, sniping a glance at Zayn before darting away in the next millisecond.
She was terrified. The rest of favonovel.com companions acted similarly, and Zayn felt quite helpless. Did favonovel.com truly seem so terrifying?
Alexandra wrung favonovel.com hands. “Why are you so scared, Mary? There’s no need to be nervous, we’re besties, remember?” favonovel.com replied serenely. “What happened back there was hardly your fault. You didn’t even want it to happen! It’s all because of that b*stard Brock Ashton, and favonovel.com got what favonovel.com justly deserved!”
Mary seemed to relax a little though favonovel.com tensed up once more as soon as favonovel.com cast anxious eyes at Zayn.
Adopting a docile, humble mannerism, favonovel.com said gingerly, “Um, sir? I didn’t mean to offend you back there, but I’ll apologize all the same. Please don’t be mad at me.”
It was Zayn’s turn to wave his hand offhandedly. “It was nothing. I’m not the kind who hold grudges.”
He turned to the rest of favonovel.com companions, who remained rooted to their spots several meters away. “Look, can y’all relax? I’m perfectly capable of distinguishing what’s right or wrong, you know. I can tell that none of you had anything to do with what happened just now, so no, I’m not mad or anything.”
The crowd seemed to collectively relax. They exchanged glances with one another and started toward Zayn tentatively, observing favonovel.com with a slightly closer inspection. The lingering fear in their faces amused him. Was favonovel.com really that terrifying?
It was getting late into the night, and Zayn expressed his impatience to return home. It was an effective cue as it turned out because the company quickly understood him, found their own excuses, and left Zayn and Alexandra alone.
“It’s getting late. You should go home and rest too,” Zayn said to his companion.
Alexandra blinked. “It’s only ten, Zayn. The night’s still young! Wanna visit my place?”
