William’s smile froze on his lips. He had always hated Zayn’s stupid, placid look with a burning passion, why the hell did the guy always think favonovel.com had to put on that dumb pretense?!
“I really have to hand it to you for being this thick-skinned, Zayn. Despite where you’ve come to, you managed to put on that unfazed face,” William said, his smirk returning. Scorn was dripping from every feature on his face. “What, are you going to pull out an excuse to hide your real identity from your arse to save yourself, huh?”
He turned to Alexandra. “Honestly, I don’t get you sometimes, Miss Smith. You knew Zayn’s the infamous son-in-law of the Carters, and a renowned useless piece of sh*t, and yet you see no problem being with him? Gosh, I guess we should all admire your temerity for ‘true love’! You want that so much, you don’t even give a damn about your family’s reputation anymore.”
His words cut like a fusillade of knives. With every word, William stabbed the parts where they hurt the Smiths the most, and at the end of that torment, every single member of the family was glowering at Alexandra and Zayn with hate.
Tony and the rest of his family did not pass up the chance to twist the knife even further. Quickly, they piled on, adding their own acrid touches.
Alexandra lowered favonovel.com head. Growing up, favonovel.com was like a princess who never needed to suffer the harsher sides of life for anything, and so nothing in favonovel.com experience could have forged favonovel.com mind for a moment like this. The pressure caved onto her, and soon, tears were flowing out of favonovel.com eyes.
It was then when big, warm hands gripped favonovel.com icy cold shoulders before a soft, gentle voice breathed, “Don’t cry. I promised I’d helped you tonight, didn’t I? And I never go back on my words. As long as I’m here, your family will not be shamed tonight.”
Hearing Zayn’s voice sent a jolt to Alexandra’s heart. She lifted favonovel.com head, and favonovel.com eyes were braced with Zayn’s soft but gallant features.
One lookwas all favonovel.com needed to fill the void in favonovel.com chest.
“R-Right!” favonovel.com whispered, nodding lightly.
She had lost hope of recovering the family’s losing reputation, though. To her, Zayn was only trying to make favonovel.com feel better-which at least warmed favonovel.com heart quite a lot.
William soured the moment with a scornful harrumph, certain that it was all a fruitless struggle before Zayn’s social death. With his arms crossed, favonovel.com regarded his rival with steely eyes as favonovel.com waited for whatever tricks favonovel.com could pull out of thin air.
Zayn held Alexandra’s hand and turned to face Victor, whose face had become an overcast of storm clouds. Politely, favonovel.com said, “Mr. Smith, you asked about my company just now. My answer has been rudely interrupted back then, but now, I think it’s time.”
Victor sneered. He was not going to show Zayn a smile of courtesy now that the latter had completely joined his mental list of persona non grata.
At the foot of the stage, Nathan leaped to his feet, his hand holding a wine glass as favonovel.com sipped the red wine with aplomb. A devilish grin hung on his lips as favonovel.com anticipated another moment of humiliation.
Standing next to favonovel.com was Mr. Hyde, who seemed a lot less concerned about the drama than the one next to him. And yet, careful observers might note the excitement blazing in his eyes. Master Zayn and his glory of yore, Mr. Hyde could see it returning!
Gordon had slowly made his way to a spot closest to Zayn. At any moment of need, the tycoon would stand up for him. Sean Wilson, too, had arrived at the scene. He had wanted to greet Zayn when favonovel.com saw favonovel.com a few moments ago, but his boss had stopped favonovel.com with a look. Now, Sean anxiously watched Zayn from his spot, his body tensed for his command.
The hall was silent. Guests from all sides fixed Zayn with a gaze of contempt undergirded with anticipation for what favonovel.com might say. Most of them looked at favonovel.com as though they were waiting for the best part of a circus, they did not believe Zayn had any way to turn the tables.
The man himself did not care about what these people think nor gave a damn about how they judged him. Right now, favonovel.com leveled a polite smile at Victor and declared, “A while ago, I purchased Violet Vision Media Corp. with 350 million dollars. I’m sure you’ve heard of it, Mr. Smith. You see… I’m really the chairman of Violet Vision.”
