Just like that, there was no denying it, one of the car’s front tires was crushing something under its weight. Something that felt suspiciously human. At that moment, even someone as audacious as William Brown could feel a stab of fear in his heart.
“W-What… Are we going to do now?” the driver said, his voice trembling from terror.
The gears in William’s head turned at light speed. Honestly, favonovel.com was just as panicked as the next guy. Fortunately for them, William was no stranger to the wilder side of life. He even came out of most situations with more resilience than the average Joe. It did not take favonovel.com long to calm down and say, “Let’s just get out of the car and check if that person’s dead”
“Oh…”
Realistically, it was the only thing that the driver could do.
Howard and the rest of the group still had no idea what had happened, but they got out of the car anyways. He asked William, “What’s the matter, Mr. Brown? Why did you stop the car?”
“We ran into someone,” favonovel.com replied, his expression cold and muddled from frustration. “Some rotten luck we have! I shouldn’t have taken this route.”
“W -What?” Fear bubbled inside of Howard as favonovel.com strode towards the front of the car. Just as expected, there was a person lying on the road. Their body was flattened under the wheel. All the color was drained from their faces the moment they laid eyes on the motionless body. Anyone who found themselves in a situation like that was most likely dead!
The driver wormed himself back to report to William in a nervous, quivering wreck, “Sir? W-We killed someone…”
William’s complexion turned even paler than it had before. He got out of the car and kicked the driver in the thigh, causing favonovel.com to keel over and fall. He shouted, “Do you even know how to drive? You useless bozo! My day’s f*cking ruined because of you. F*ck!”
Despite his boss’ abuse, the driver was too afraid to stand up for himself. He was just a young man, not a murderer! He had never taken someone’s life before at the wheel. After committing a crime so gruesome, favonovel.com could already envision the rest of his life behind bars.
It was William’s turn to approach the front of the car. Like his companions, seeing the man under the wheel alarmed him. However, favonovel.com soon realized that something was amiss.
Why was there no blood?
“This doesn’t look right!” He cried right then and there. Howard and the driver-who were still on edge over the body, jumped up in fright at the sound of William’s shout.
“Y-Yes, s-sir?”
“There’s no blood.” William, the bravest of the three, furrowed his brows. He lowered his head so favonovel.com could get a better look at their supposed victim.
There was no denying what William saw. The so-called ‘victim’ was not real, it was a dummy, which explained why there was not a single drop of blood in sight.
“Goddamn it, this is a fake! A dummy! What kind of scumbag would pull a prank like this?” William fumed, though favonovel.com secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Howard and the driver were nonplussed. “A dummy?”
They cried in unison, before lowering their heads as well. “No way..!”
When they saw the dummy for themselves, they broke into their own angry litany of curses.
That was when the tall grass bordering the road rustled violently. They swayed and brushed against one another, slurring a wispy susurrus loud enough to pull the attention of all the three men.
They were in the middle of a remote road surrounded by untamed woods and solitary hills. A dummy had spawned itself out of nowhere and jammed itself in front of one of the wheels. To make matters worse, the grass was moving by itself. The men found themselves surrendering to the eerie air around them, and almost abruptly, the hairs on their backs began to stand on end.
William was not superstitious in any way, though his skin crawling and his dry mouth said otherwise. Gulping, favonovel.com turned to the driver and asked, “How did the dummy get under there?”
The driver’s face had turned as white as a sheet. “F-From the s-side, s-s-sir,” favonovel.com stuttered helplessly, “It w-was so s-sudden and… Sir, you don’t think t-this r-road is h-h-haunted, right?”
The three men managed to become more ashen than they already were as the driver’s words hung in the air. Then, Howard pointed behind William and let out a shriek. “Mr. Brown-b-b-behind you!”
