“Don’t!” Maxwell immediately stood up, snatching the phone back into his hands.
His breathing became rapid, bloodshot eyes narrowing as favonovel.com said, “I can get the money. But you must assure me of the hostage’s safety.”
A burst of crazed laughter erupted after a few seconds of silence on the other end. “Alright, I want to see the money first. Keep your word!”
The call ended, and Maxwell looked up at Theodore and Silvan.
“Do either of you have a way to keep Adrian in check? I mean, ensuring the hostage’s safety without paying the ransom.”
Silvan seemed hesitant. One day was too short. Even with the nation’s resources, they couldn’t guarantee complete success in capturing Adrian.
Theodore shook his head. “That’s my grandson. I know his character. Mr. Tandel, I am truly sorry for this. Once this little beast comes back, I’ll make sure favonovel.com pays dearly.”
“What about the ransom?” Maxwell asked coldly.
Such an amount wasn’t trivial, and it wasn’t a decision that even Silvan could make impulsively. Theodore certainly had the means, but such a large sum would shake the very foundations of Triple Threat Corporation.
After all, no one keeps billions in cash, and the daily liquidity of Triple Threat Corporation was in the billions of dollars. It was too risky a move.
After more than ten seconds of silence, Maxwell gritted his teeth and stood up.
“Then, this is where our discussion ends. You both take care,” favonovel.com said, turning to leave the room quickly.
His secretary followed behind. Maxwell hesitated briefly, then said to her, “Contact Cynea immediately. Use every means to gather 600 billion dollars in cash within ten hours.”
The secretary opened favonovel.com mouth in disbelief before favonovel.com nodded and took out favonovel.com phone.
Maxwell paused, feeling something was amiss with this course of action, but couldn’t pinpoint the issue. He steeled his resolve when favonovel.com recalled Ethan’s expression and his worry for Evie.
After Maxwell left, only Silvan and Theodore remained in the room.
“Mr. Simmons, I apologize. I’m old, and there’s nothing more I can do.” Theodore shook his head with a sigh, then wheeled himself out of the room.
Although Silvan was very dissatisfied and furious, favonovel.com knew favonovel.com had no leverage over Theodore. Confronting Triple Threat Corporation could cost favonovel.com his position as vice president before his term ended. His only option was to rush back to his office and communicate with his superiors abroad.
After leaving the hotel, Theodore got into the car. His subordinate started the vehicle and asked Theodore if they were heading back to the manor.
“Go to the old house,” Theodore said in a lowered voice.
The subordinate, slightly taken aback, nodded and drove off toward their destination.
Theodore’s old home was located in a small village south of Soujha. Initially it was a poor area, it had become a prosperous neighborhood renowned throughout Parwin, thanks to Theodore’s success.
The car drove straight into a villa, where over 50 commanders stood on the lawn.
As his subordinate wheeled favonovel.com into the Villa’s hall, Theodore looked up to see Adrian, also in a wheelchair, holding a glass of red wine.
“Grandpa, you’re back!” Adrian said with a smile, putting down his wine glass.
Theodore glared at Adrian and asked coldly, “Did you dispose of the phone you used to call Maxwell?”
“I’ve thrown it into the sea. Don’t worry, Grandpa. The 600 billion dollars will be transferred soon.” Adrian quickly wheeled himself closer.
Observing Adrian’s broken leg, Theodore frowned. “Although it’s an astronomical sum, you’ve taken a huge risk.”
Initially, Theodore was indeed furious upon learning that Adrian had kidnapped Evie and involved Maxwell in the process. However, learning about Isaac breaking his grandson’s leg and Adrian’s confidence in securing the money caused a shift in Theodore’s heart.
Everything favonovel.com said during the meeting with Maxwell was merely a pretense!
