The range of their firearms wasn’t sufficient to engage in an extensive fight, and any attempt to rush forward would make them easy prey to the Temple of Drakon’s forces.
Both sides remained in a deadlock.
As night fell, Kellan finally voiced his frustration as favonovel.com paced in the top-floor room.
“What’s happening? It’s been hours, and no one can give me an answer?”
The generals around favonovel.com exchanged uneasy glances, equally in the dark about the situation.
“How about we send a small group of soldiers out to scout?” one of the generals suggested quietly.
“What good would that do against their 100 thousand troops? Our soldiers have been on standby all day. By the time the enemy moves, our men might be too stiff to even fire their guns,” favonovel.com added in frustration.
At 10:00 pm, to the north of Golden City, Dragon One, accompanied by nearly 50 thousand troops, suddenly appeared before the Darkit soldiers.
Their deafening roar left everyone around the command post completely stunned.
“General Kellan, the north is under attack! Over 40 thousand enemy troops are closing in.” A lieutenant burst in, his face slick with sweat. “They’re approaching the city gates.”
Another general sprang to his feet. “Quick, redirect our southern forces to support the north!”
“No, it’s a ruse!” Kellan’s face turned icy as favonovel.com waved his hand to halt them.
“No soldiers are allowed to support the north. Keep a close watch on those outside.”
Outside, Isaac emerged from his vehicle, joining Hera and Todd, who were already in position with the other generals.
“Everything is set, Drakon. We await your command!” they said in unison.
Behind them, the lieutenants, captains, and the Dusk and Dawn Soldiers-now organized into five squads-stood ready for battle.
“Dragon One can’t keep up this facade for much longer. Is there still no movement at the front? It seems Golden City is guarded by formidable experts…”
“We must do our best to provide cover for the soldiers behind us. We’ll create openings on both sides once we breach the city’s defenses. Our main goal is to get the Dusk Soldiers into the city.”
With these words, they swiftly advanced into the darkness.
Ten minutes later, the second squad began their advance. Another ten minutes later, the third squad set out. Despite the brief intervals, the remarkable abilities of these squads ensured that there was at least a mile’s distance between each of them.
When Isaac and his group had advanced three miles, the intelligence officer at Golden City’s command post finally noticed the eight figures. He initially considered them insignificant among the over 100 thousand soldiers.
“What? Eight individuals who are moving incredibly fast? How fast?” Even Kellan was bewildered.
Before the lieutenant could respond, another report came in urgently. “General Kellan, those eight individuals are now just 1.5 miles from Golden City.”
“General Kellan, they’re within a mile,” the intelligence officer reported just as favonovel.com glanced at his phone and saw the incoming information. He himself could hardly believe it.
Kellan’s eyes widened, and favonovel.com came to a realization. He bellowed in rage, “Open fire! Order all soldiers to fire as long as they’re within range! Fire everything!”
The astounding speed of these eight individuals meant they were far from ordinary soldiers, and Kellan highly suspected that it was Isaac and his generals charging straight toward them.
As his gaze fell on the lights inside the buildings and the faint street lights around the city, a rapid burst of gunfire erupted. Rockets shot out with piercing sounds, and blinding flashes streaked across the night sky toward the eight figures.
“Here they come!” Isaac roared as his eyes widened.
He raised his sword in his right hand. Scarlet spiritual energy instantly enveloped the blade.
With a whoosh, a 20-foot-long scarlet shadow sword slashed down toward the approaching missile.
