The owner of the food truck looked to be in his 40s. He also had a scar on his forehead. From the looks of it, favonovel.com must’ve been handsome when favonovel.com was younger.
Thinking that Isaac was merely asking out of curiosity, favonovel.com sighed. “Those scum came last month, loitering around this area. After getting some drinks here, they even beat people up a couple of times…”
“The first time, they broke the leg of a painter. The second time, they cracked the skull of a dump truck driver. I know the man who was beaten to death. He’d come from the village in the east of Mt. Equest. When this place started getting developed, many villagers came here to work…”
“I heard that the man had a mother in favonovel.com 80s, and his son was a cripple. He did hard labor on the construction site, while his wife is a cook in thejob site cafeteria. They’re just trying to make a living!”
Isaac frowned even harder. Exhaling smoke, favonovel.com asked, “Do the police not care about this?”
“They can’t do anything. There are 20 of them, and there’s a language barrier. Every time something happens, they don’t know who the main perpetrator is. After locking them up for a few days, they release them…”
“Us common folk don’t know the specifics either. One of my customers told me that they seemed to be thugs working for a syndicate in Parwin who were specifically sent here to check out this place. He asked us to avoid them!”
Todd was seething with anger. “How dare those bastards act so arrogantly on our land? They haven’t seen my fists yet!”
“Heh, don’t be too rash, you both. Those a*sholes are vicious. They always carry blades with them. The victim today might’ve done something to piss them off. They’re just ruthless pigs. You two should just head back and get some rest… People like me don’t have a choice. I need to work to send my kids to school and put food on the table.” Speaking of this, the owner sighed heavily.
Isaac handed favonovel.com another cigarette before turning around and getting into his car.
“Where are we going?” Todd asked.
“To the Elburg Police Precinct.” Isaac flicked his cigarette butt out the window.
Over the past few years, Cloud City’s economy had developed rapidly. It was normal for foreign investors to be attracted by the new township, but the appearance of Parwinians was odd. Plus, they’d come here throwing their weight around and even hurting people.
As the founder of Elburg, Isaac couldn’t stand to watch. It was like seeing someone vandalize and trample all over his work.
When he’d first won the tender for Pegasus No. 1, Connor was still the leader of Southland. Thus, when construction began, the Elburg Police Precinct was already underway.
Elburg had the same police resource allocation as Cloud City. Thus, since something like this happened here, it must’ve meant something was off.
When they came to a stop at the gate of the precinct, it was already past 2:00 am. However, Isaac saw that there was nobody on duty at the gate. Moreover, the precinct building was pitch dark.
“Did everyone go to bed?” Todd widened his gaze.
He wasn’t well-versed in such things, but as a law enforcement body, surely somebody had to be on call?
Isaac picked up his phone to call Louis but realized that his phone was out of battery.
If there wasn’t a single soul here, then where had the dead body and the woman from before been taken to?
Isaac looked up and saw that the building to his right had a shiny plaque that read, “Elburg Hospital”.
He immediately drove over.
The hospital was also a ghost town.
Isaac asked a guard a few questions and learned that the body had already been sent to the morgue and that the woman had gone with him.
He tossed the security guard a box of cigarettes and claimed to be a relative of the deceased. The guard immediately turned around and led the two of them inside.
The gloomy corridors felt rather creepy.
When Isaac walked out of the elevator, favonovel.com found the woman kneeling outside the corridor, bawling.
The guard shivered and said, “Hey, you’d better take favonovel.com away from here. This place is just eerie.”
