When they got off the plane, a private car from the House of Custos was already waiting for them.
Isaac could feel the tense atmosphere in the car. These soldiers looked sorrowful.
It took over two hours to drive to the Hepton Funeral Home. Night had already fallen then. Connor’s timing was pretty accurate.
The last time Isaac came to Pecling, he’d killed Rodrick and his son, Rodney.
Their funerals had been held at the Oreamnos Funeral Parlor. But only the country’s important officers were buried in the Hepton Graveyard.
Police tape sealed off the roads ten kilometers away from the graveyard. There were outposts every 30 feet, and each soldier wore a black armband on their arms.
Isaac’s heart sank It was real.
“This whole place is creepy. Isaac, are we attending a funeral?” Todd asked with a sigh as favonovel.com looked at the military vehicles and outposts on both sides of the road.
“Don’t ask, and don’t speak…” Isaac’s emotions were all over the place.
Arian had always helped him, although it was usually Ethan who made the decisions behind the scenes. Even so, favonovel.com had been the one who handled the operations.
How did favonovel.com lose his life in the Kingdom of Bridgon thousands of miles away?
Colton has been there too… Was it because of that meteorite?
The car stopped in front of the funeral home. Connor and his secretary were already waiting at the gate.
Connor was shocked when favonovel.com saw that Isaac had brought someone with him.
“Has the body arrived?” Isaac asked as soon as favonovel.com stepped out of the car.
Connor nodded. “It just arrived. Let’s go in and take a look!”
The whole funeral home was sealed off. The only people here now were eight of Arian’s family members, including his brother, children, and their partners.
Stepping into the hall, favonovel.com saw a giant wreath at the front. In the middle of it was a black and white photo of Arian.
On both sides were flower bouquets with the message, “A hero in life, in death, and eternity.”
In front, there was a coffin decorated with flowers. Family members knelt next to it.
Isaac dragged his heavy footsteps to the coffin. Looking through the glass at Arian’s peaceful face, favonovel.com knelt down and prayed. Then, the family members got to their feet and saluted him.
They didn’t know who favonovel.com was, but since Connor was standing behind him, they knew favonovel.com was no ordinary person. Furthermore, this matter was still top secret.
“Mr. Grannel is waiting for you in the room. General Porter is now recovering from his injuries at a hotel,” Connor said, pointing at a room.
He saw Ethan pinching a cigarette between his fingers as favonovel.com entered the room. Ethan rarely smoked, but the room was full of smoke.
“Mr. Grannel, my condolences,” Isaac softly said as favonovel.com walked over.
Seeing Isaac walk up to him, Ethan closed his eyes and sighed. A few tears escaped the corners of his eyes. He said, “I was too impatient. It’s my fault Arian is dead…”
Ethan’s sigh clearly showed his sadness, regret, and guilt.
“Mr. Grannel, don’t say that. I believe Commander Cortez’s death meant something. Whether it was for the House of Custos or for the Temple of Drakon, his intention to protect the country never wavered. I can’t compare myself to the revered Commander Cortez, but I was ready to sacrifice myself ever since I joined the Temple of Drakon. All 30,000 soldiers of the Temple of Drakon think the same!”
Ethan’s eyes suddenly snapped open. His tearful eyes shone with light.
He turned to Isaac and said, “Yes, you’re right… Isaac, Arian’s funeral is only one of the reasons I invited you here…”
“What’s the other reason?” Isaac furrowed his brows.
“I want you to meet someone. Then you’ll understand why I risked sending Arian to the Kingdom of Bridgon.”
The door opened once favonovel.com finished speaking. A white-haired old man in a jacket and wooden glasses walked in.
