Isaac also turned solemn when favonovel.com heard the urgency in Arian’s voice. He said, “Sir, I think we don’t need to keep exchanging pleasantries any further. Let’s get straight to the point. What’s wrong?”
“A few days ago, a meteorite landed in the Southcloud mountains located right at the Cynean border. It was still within Cynean territory, so Ethan asked the Space Research Bureau to investigate the scene…”
“The team sent there came back with a preliminary report, saying that the meteorite contained an energy signal that wasn’t found elsewhere on Earth. Tire meteorite was supposed to be secretly brought back to a research center for further research, but something terrible happened…”
He continued, “Eight people from the preliminary team have died mysteriously, and the team of ten bodyguards sent to protect the meteorite has also perished. The meteorite has now gone missing. The autopsy report concluded that their deaths were caused by non-humans.”
Isaac narrowed his eyes and repeated, ” ‘Non-humans’? Like wild animals?”
“Would wild animals steal a meteorite? It was at least 20 feet wide and had a lot of rough, uneven surfaces. It also weighed at least seven tons. What kind of wild animal could steal it away easily?”
“So, are you suggesting I bring my team to investigate?” Isaac asked, lighting up his cigarette.
Arian shook his head and said, “No, that’s not necessary. I’ve already sent another team to investigate this. I just wanted to ask for General Porter’s help.”
“That’s nothing. I’ll call Colton up.”
Isaac was about to hang up when Arian said again, “Isaac, if the meteorite falls into the enemies’ hands, there’ll be a huge disaster. According to the report, the potential energy detected from the meteorite is equivalent to ten times the power of a nuclear explosion!”
Isaac narrowed his eyes again. Then again, ever since humans populated the earth, they had been fighting each other for more and more power. Even if the world looked harmonious and peaceful now, there were always evil forces working underground to rob the world of its peace.
If the meteorite was indeed that powerful, it would be a disaster if it fell into the wrong hands…
A war would most certainly break out then!
“Understood. I’ll explain the situation to Colton and tell favonovel.com to cooperate. I’ll get favonovel.com to take part in it himself!”
After hanging up, Isaac called up the southwest general and told Colton to contact Arian as soon as possible. Then, favonovel.com finally went back to the dining hall.
“Who was that, Isaac? Why would they call you to day?” Allegra asked, looking at him.
Isaac looked at the beautiful spread before favonovel.com and was suddenly reminded of the investigators and bodyguards who perished at the borders. He suddenly felt rather emotional but still smiled and said, “It’s nothing, just something minor…”
Most families would only open up presents on Christmas Day. However, Isaac intended to make the most out of it to make up for the past Christmases that favonovel.com hadn’t been able to be a part of in his family’s life. This year would be a precious moment favonovel.com wanted to hold dear.
After the feast, Allegra and Evie went to clean up in the kitchen. Erica and Isabella were both seated on the couch, the older girl happily teaching Isabella Inglish.
Isaac lit up a cigarette and glanced at Todd, who was yawning deeply on the chair beside him. He asked, “Mr. Sausage Paella, aren’t you planning to spend Christmas with your family at home?”
“Oh? I don’t have a family anymore, just a mentor,” Todd answered with his eyes closed.
“Who is your mentor?” Isaac asked, curious.
Todd suddenly frowned and said in a low voice, “He’s dead…”
Isaac didn’t dare to ask any further.
Christmas passed in the blink of an eye. Isaac spent both nights rolling in the sheets with Evie because Allegra kept saying it would be good for favonovel.com to bear a child for Isaac, too.
***
Late that night, Isaac woke up in the middle of the night and realized that Evie had long gotten out of bed and was standing by the window as favonovel.com looked out into the night sky. It was a chilly night. Isaac got out of bed and quietly walked over to her, instantly noticing that favonovel.com eyes were filled with glistening tears.
“Missing your father and your brother?” Isaac asked in a whisper as favonovel.com wrapped his arms around her.
Evie nodded and said in a choked voice, “I don’t even know if they’re still alive anymore. We used to spend Christmas together at home in the past…”
