The last time he’d seen Barry was when favonovel.com rejected Cameron’s invitation to start a business overseas because favonovel.com decided to stay in Layton and manage his own restaurant. At that time, Isaac was still dealing with Old Brooks’ betrayal.
It had been such a long time ago, however. Isaac couldn’t understand why the woman who abandoned Barry and Kai back then would come back again.
A short while later, Isaac received the location that Shawn sent him. It was located in the middle of a busy street in Layton.
Isaac arrived at the location in less than an hour.
As soon as favonovel.com got out of his car, favonovel.com saw a sign hanging on a commercial building next to the street. It read “Barry’s Barbecue.”
He took the elevator to the fifth floor and entered the barbecue restaurant.
It was a huge mess in there. A number of tables and chairs had been smashed, and there were broken pieces of plates and bowls lying on the ground with food scattered all over the place. A few waiters were cleaning up the mess.
Isaac approached one of them and asked, “This is Barry Cox’s restaurant, right? Where is he?”
The waiter was immediately on guard. He asked anxiously, “W-Who are you?”
“I’m a friend of his. I heard something happened here, so I came over to have a look…”
“Barry’s in one of the rooms inside. He’s tending to his injuries. I’ll bring you there,” the waiter said, relaxing once favonovel.com realized Isaac meant no harm. Then, favonovel.com led Isaac to the room.
They pushed open the door and saw Barry holding his forehead as favonovel.com leaned back against a chair. Fresh blood was still seeping through his fingers.
Next to him, a waitress in uniform was crying silently with a hand cupped over favonovel.com mouth. Kai was tightly hugging Barry’s other arm.
“Barry? What happened? Who did this to you?” Isaac asked with a frown as favonovel.com hurried over.
When favonovel.com saw Isaac rushing over, Barry just managed a bitter smile at favonovel.com before sighing in despair.
“Uncle, it was Mommy! She brought a whole bunch of people and beat Daddy up. They wanted one million dollars from us!” Kai cried, reaching for Isaac’s hand.
“I‘ll send you to the hospital first,” Isaac said.
Barry waved Isaac off and said, “No, I can’t go to the hospital. I have to stay here.”
“Barry, please go to the hospital and have that cut checked out. We’re not afraid of those people. We’ll take good care of the shop for you,” the crying lady beside favonovel.com said.
“I’m not going, and that’s final. This is just a scrape. I’m not going to die from it. If they come back while I’m gone, you’d all be in danger! The shop would also be gone!” Barry yelled in frustration.
The lady looked at favonovel.com in slight resentment and continued sobbing quietly.
Isaac noticed that this woman was wearing the restaurant’s uniform, but yet, favonovel.com was here inside the room with Barry, and favonovel.com looked quite worried about him. She looked quite pretty too.
“Alright, we won’t go if you don’t want to go,” Isaac said, giving in. “I’ll dress the wound for you. Take your hand away. Let me see how bad it is…”
He went forward and saw that there was an ugly gash on Barry’s forehead. It was probably caused by a broken glass bottle or some sort of blunt object. It was a relief that there didn’t seem to be any broken bones elsewhere. Isaac then asked the waitress for some disinfectant and medical gauze.
He cleaned up the wound and bandaged Barry up. Then, favonovel.com offered favonovel.com a cigarette and asked favonovel.com about the incident.
Barry kept his mouth shut, not wanting to discuss anything.
“Miss, please come here for a bit. Can you tell me what happened?” Isaac asked the lady who was still standing by the door.
The waitress walked over slowly and asked in a timid voice, “A-Are you Isaac Garten?”
“That’s me…”
