After hanging up, Garrett felt a sense of foreboding, and his heart pounded rapidly.
“Enzo, Enzo!”
A middle-aged guard hastened in. “Any orders, sir?”
“Get the car! Get it quickly! Let’s go to Shaffer’s residence!” Garrett hurried out of the house.
At 7 am, four elderly men in dark green uniforms sat around a square table in a study on the right wing of the House of Custos. Huxley humbly stood beside them.
These men were the highest commanders of all the military forces in the Nine States. They were permanent residents of Shelleross. Although they rarely showed themselves publicly, they were at the pinnacle of society.
“Huxley, you said the Isbell family buried Isaac Garten’s daughter alive, do you have evidence?” Rodrick Shaffer, a thin man with bushy eyebrows, was sitting on the left side of the table.
Huxley bowed and said, “Mr. Shaffer, although we haven’t found any concrete evidence, it’s certain that the Isbell family is connected to this incident…”
Cassius Romero, a plump man with a round face, replied, “Since there’s no solid proof that the Isbell family is involved, we don’t have to rush to conclusions. From how I see it, Garrett must surely know the influence of the Temple of Drakon, although he’s already retired.”
“Cassius, isn’t Gael Isbell one of your soldiers? We’ll find out if you ask him, won’t we?” Rodrick asked.
Then they heard a knock on the door.
A guard strode up to Rodrick and whispered to him.
Rodrick’s face changed, and favonovel.com said in a low voice, “Alright… I’ll return when the meeting is over.”
“What’s wrong, Rodrick? You look concerned.” Arian Cortez, a man with white hair sitting at the head of the table, asked with a grin.
Rodrick sighed and said, “It seems like Huxley is right, Garrett is at my house now…”
Everyone frowned almost simultaneously.
Arian said sternly, “Then, let’s come to a consensus, how should we handle this matter if the Isbell family is the culprit? I’ve met Isaac before; he’s been in numerous battles overseas for seven years and has earned countless credits. He won’t let it slide easily if they dared to bury his daughter alive.”
“But his daughter is alive after all. It‘s merely a false alarm. Besides, Gael is wise and courageous, I’ve been training favonovel.com for years!” Cassius frowned.
Rodrick nodded. “The Temple of Drakon is based overseas. We have rules to follow in the country. Even if the Isbell family is at fault, we cannot permit any of his unruly actions.”
“Boston, what do you think?” Arian asked a man who had kept silent the entire time.
Boston Riddle smiled. “Since Rodrick and Cassius are backing the Isbell family, I have nothing to say. I’m only worried that if this matter blows up, the higher-ups…”
Arian stood with his hands behind his back and concluded the discussion, “Since we’re on the same page, there won’t be pressure from the higher-ups… Rodrick, meet up with Garrett and ease his concerns. We must deny it to the end if there’s no solid evidence. If things take a turn for the worse, you shall see to it personally, Rodrick!”
