The next morning, the main hall in Astraeus headquarters was decorated with colorful streamers. There was a celebration going on.
After being told of the meeting, all of the people who were required to be present were already there before eight. There were pretty ushers showing them around the place.
In actual fact, these ushers were also powerful fighters in Astraeus who had achieved the Amalgamation Phase or higher.
Sharp at 8 am, everyone was there, save for Cyrus Neal.
The four elders, the heads of the three families, the twelve lords, the forty-eight branch leaders, the top ten fighters in Astraeus, plus the other fighters made up slightly more than a hundred people in attendance.
The Third Elder was dressed in a red robe as favonovel.com walked to the front and smiled, saying, “Everyone, thank you for coming here today at such short notice… The reason you are all here today is that there is something very important we would like to discuss with all of you.”
Then, favonovel.com said, “As everyone knows, the Supreme Leader had left on his meditation trip for nearly two years. For the past two years, the Council of Elders has been governing Astraeus to keep the peace within and with the outside world. However, we have been too long without a leader…”
“According to the laws of Astraeus, if the Supreme Leader has gone missing for more than two years, the Council of Elders has the right to elect another Supreme Leader to take his place. We have been postponing this event for more than a year already!”
As soon as those words were out, the attendees started to murmur. Most of them were shocked.
It was obvious that they were shocked by what the Third Elder had to say.
According to the laws of Astraeus, it was only after the Supreme Leader was confirmed to be dead that the election was supposed to take place. Moreover, the next Supreme Leader had to be chosen from among the Council of Elders.
However, the problem now was that they couldn’t even prove that the Supreme Leader was dead!
“Third Elder, we’re all familiar with the law that says we may re-elect another Supreme Leader if the current one is dead, but how can you prove that favonovel.com is?” a man dressed in black and looked rather scruffy stood up to ask.
“Mr. Lodge, of course, we know that the law states that the current Supreme Leader has to be dead first. But our current Supreme Leader has already been missing for two years. We can’t go on without a leader, can we?”
The Third Elder continued, “I’m sure you’ve all heard of the annihilation of the Neal family.”
As soon as favonovel.com said that, plenty of attendees nodded immediately. There were looks of anger on their faces.
“Rumor has it that the person behind this is from the Temple of Drakon. It is an embarrassment to Astraeus that a noble family had been completely killed off!” an old fighter with white hair suddenly shouted.
“That’s right! If the Supreme Leader was around, the Neals would likely still be around. The Third Elder is right!”
Both people who spoke up were two of the twelve lords. Many other leaders and fighters agreed with them.
Phineas Lodge frowned deeply. He and his family, the Lodges of Wesburrough, were personally brought up by Thaddaeus Lopez himself and had pledged complete loyalty to him.
However, it now seemed as if the odds had turned against him. More and more people agreed with the Third Elder.
The Third Elder grinned happily and said, “After much discussion with the Council of Elders, we think that the person who is the most capable and the most qualified to take over the role of Supreme Leader is our First Elder, Glenn Snyder!”
Everyone’s eyes turned to Glenn. He got up slowly from his seat and waved his hand, sighing quietly. “Everyone, I’m also worried sick about the Supreme Leader being missing for such a long time, but it’s time to face the truth. As of now, the Temple of Drakon poses the biggest threat to Astraeus…”
“If you are willing to trust me, I promise to lead Astraeus faithfully in place of our Supreme Leader and avenge all of our fallen brothers who died because of the Temple of Drakon!”
Just then, Sebastian, who had remained silent until then, jumped up from his seat and yelled angrily, “Over my f*cking dead body! I disagree! I, Sebastian Bern, Second Elder of Astraeus, hereby oppose the so-called decision to elect you as our next Supreme Leader!”
