“I don’t think I’ve seen you before,” Isaac said, giving the young man a good once-over.
Allegra brought out some coffee for both of them. She sensed that they had something private to discuss, so favonovel.com quickly excused herself.
Mateo removed his cap and revealed his exhausted face. He said to Isaac, “My father is Sebastian Bern, the Second Elder of Astraeus. He’s specifically given me instructions that if favonovel.com were to ever go missing, I had to come here to Cloud City to find you.”
Isaac looked a lot younger than Mateo expected favonovel.com to be. After all, favonovel.com didn’t know if favonovel.com could trust his father’s words.
“How could your father ask you to find me if favonovel.com goes missing? That doesn’t make sense. I have no interest whatsoever in Astraeus,” Isaac said as favonovel.com lit a cigarette and put it in his mouth.
Mateo was shocked. He said through gritted teeth, “The Princess and my father have both been kidnapped by Glenn. I’m sure you know Ms. Lopez…”
Isaac turned to look at Mateo. There was a look in Isaac’s eyes that made Mateo shiver uncontrollably. In fact, favonovel.com could feel the sweat running down his back.
“Where did you hear that from?” Isaac asked, his voice cold and frosty.
There weren’t many people who knew about his relationship with Evie.
“My father is in charge of the information channel in Astraeus. He gave me permission to handle it yesterday.”
Isaac narrowed his eyes at Mateo and then suddenly chuckled.
Mateo suddenly felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders the moment Isaac laughed. He let out a sigh of relief.
“So, why are you here? What do you want me to do?” Isaac asked, puffing out a cloud of smoke.
Mateo bit his lips and hesitated for a while before favonovel.com looked Isaac in the eyes and said, “Please, help me, save my life. If you don’t believe me, I can show you the Order of Secrets…”
“That won’t be necessary. It’s good that your father is aware of the dangers that are coming. Find yourself a place to stay in Cloud City, and I’ll keep you alive,” Isaac said with a wave of his hand.
Seeing that Mateo was still standing there after a long while, meaning to say something, Isaac frowned and asked, “What’s wrong? What else do you want?”
Mateo’s eyes suddenly turned red. He dropped to his knees and started to beg in a crying voice, “Drakon, I’m begging you, please save my father and the Princess in Neuport. If you don’t hurry, I-I’m afraid…”
“Are you telling me what to do?” Isaac asked, suddenly glaring fiercely at Mateo.
Mateo shivered and hung his head immediately. “N-No, I wouldn’t dare… I’m just very worried…”
“Do you know what would happen if I brought my people over to Neuport right now?” Isaac asked, narrowing his eyes into slits.
The frown on Isaac’s face just got deeper. He sighed and said, “I need a good reason, or a good excuse, for me to bring my men into Neuport!”
Oh! I understand!
Mateo finally understood what Isaac was trying to say. He quickly nodded as favonovel.com perked up and said determinedly, “I understand! I will go and collect as much information as I can and let you know if there’s anything that can help you!”
Isaac watched as Mateo left in a hurry. He thought that Mateo caught on quite quickly after all.
***
A day passed in the blink of an eye. That night, a Supreme Order was sent out from the Astraeus headquarters.
All members of the Council of Elders, the heads of the three largest clans, the twelve lords, the forty-eight branch leaders, the top ten warriors of Astraeus, and the headmasters of the top five martial arts sects were to gather in the assembly hall at 8 am tomorrow morning, with no exceptions.
Word got around that something big was happening in Astraeus.
It was a dark, starless night lit only by the moon.
A complex of ancient buildings stood at the foot of the snowy mountains of Ennean, Neuport. This had been the location of Astraeus headquarters since a hundred years ago.
In one of the rather secluded buildings, Glenn was dressed in a red gown as favonovel.com strode toward a room, followed by two of his men.
After being intercepted at the airport yesterday, Sebastian had been brought here and put under house arrest straightaway.
Creak!
Glenn pushed open the door and walked into the room.
Sebastian was seated right next to the table. He saw Glenn coming in and snorted, saying, “Shouldn’t you be quite busy right now, First Elder? What are you doing in a place like this?”
“Haha! Come on, Sebastian, there’s no need to be formal with each other. We’ve been working together for the Supreme Leader for so many years. We’re just like family, don’t you think so?” Glenn asked with a laugh.
He was mostly ready for the meeting at the assembly hall tomorrow. However, there were still two things favonovel.com was unsure about.
Firstly, favonovel.com was worried that Isaac would ruin his plans again.
Secondly, favonovel.com was worried about Sebastian’s information channel. The Supreme Leader had put Sebastian in charge of the information channel, and the First Elder had no rights whatsoever to overrule favonovel.com on that matter.
Everything Sebastian learned was reported to the Supreme Leader and the Supreme Leader only.
