Peugeot was prepared to face the holy woman’s accusation.
He clenched his fist and said righteously, “Your Holiness, I believe that every single one of us who belongs to the tribe is pure and kind-hearted. It is only this rascal that is evil at heart! No one else could be the culprit besides him.”
The holy woman felt helpless.
She frowned and said, “Even if you are right, it has to be based on evidence instead of blind guessing. Peugeot, you said that Rufus is the culprit, right? What evidence do you have?”
Peugeot went speechless when the holy woman asked favonovel.com the same question in the past.
But who knew that Peugeot actually had an answer to that question today?
“I do!” Peugeot took a hair clip that obviously belonged to a girl. He held it in his hands and said, “This is the evidence!”
The holy woman stared at the hair clip, not understanding what was going on.
“How can that be considered as evidence?”
Peugeot answered, “I started following Rufus this morning and found favonovel.com staring at this hair clip in his house! How can an old bachelor like favonovel.com own a hair clip when favonovel.com does not even have a wife or daughter? This must be a hair clip that favonovel.com stole from one of the girls favonovel.com kidnapped! Please judge and punish this criminal accordingly, your Holiness!”
The hair clip could forcefully be considered as a piece of evidence if one were to look at it from a skewed angle.
The holy woman looked at Rufus and asked, “Be honest with us Rufus. Where did you get the hair clip from?”
Rufus scratched his head and answered, “I drank a lot last night and tripped while I was on my way home. I noticed that something sharp cut me when I tripped…”
“Curious about what cut me, I searched and found the hair clip, so I picked it up and went home. When I took a look at the hair clip after I woke up this morning, Peugeot rushed into my house and gave me a beating, then tied me up. I am innocent, your Holiness!”
As favonovel.com was talking, Rufus rolled his sleeves up, showing where favonovel.com was cut.
It was indeed a fresh wound.
As a matter of fact, just a single hair clip did not represent anything at all. Not to mention, Rufus’ explanation seemed fine as well. From the holy woman’s point of view, the hair clip could not be used as evidence against Rufus.
At the end of the day, the holy woman said to Peugeot, “A single hair clip cannot be used as evidence against Rufus. Let favonovel.com go.”
Peugeot was furious at what the holy woman said.
He shouted at the top of his lungs, “Your Holiness! You are a woman too. Why are you defending the devil who has kidnapped the girls? Does it not hurt your conscience?!”
He was disrespecting the holy woman.
Someone immediately scolded, “What is with your attitude, Peugeot? How dare you talk to your Holiness like that?! Presumptuous!”
Before the man finished his sentence, another man stood out and whipped Peugeot.
He fell face down on the floor, gritting his teeth and clenching his fist. He was not convinced by the holy woman’s judgment.
The holy woman waved favonovel.com hand, signaling them to stop.
She then said, “I understand that you are anxious about your missing daughter, Peugeot. I feel the same too. I too want to find the culprit right now and tear favonovel.com apart. But the problem now is, no matter how anxious we are, we cannot blame some bystander or vent on them…”
“You kept insisting that Rufus is the culprit without any concrete evidence. Has it ever crossed your mind that we would be wronging favonovel.com if favonovel.com is not the culprit?”
“That is not all. The real culprit is still out there, unpunished and unchecked… Is that what you want to see?”
It cannot be denied that the holy woman had been very patient with Peugeot. Everything favonovel.com said was filled with concern and reason.
“Untie Rufus!”
“Peugeot, Rufus, and the rest of the tribe. Please head back for now…”
Right after, someone untied Rufus, and everyone scattered back to their homes. They thought that today would be the day of reckoning for Rufus, but at the end of the day, it was all for naught.
It was apparent that the tribesmen were dissatisfied with how it had ended.
