That was what happened to the Science and Technology Alliance recently. To sum it all up, the authorities no longer wanted to be in charge of the alliance, so they planned to elect a leader to manage it. They had stumbled upon the Scepter of Athena project by chance. As a result, they came up with the idea that whichever company completed the research, their chairman would become the alliance’s leader.
Naturally… It sounded like it was a good deal, but it was actually a big hoax.
“First, you have to finish the project research, which could cost up to a hundred million dollars,” Diana stated dryly. “Not all companies could fund such a high-priced project. Now, what do you get in exchange for a hundred million dollars? Only a five-million-dollar prize and the position of alliance leader.”
“Five million dollars is nothing compared to the cost of research. No one would be that stupid and complete the project for the reward. Would anyone even want to be the alliance’s leader then?”
Diana shook favonovel.com head and added, “The alliance leader position is like a hot potato because you have to work for the authorities while being responsible for the people as well. There are no proper and effective means to bring in revenue. You have to feed a bunch of people that can’t even do their work properly and deal with the operations management as well.”
“It’s a completely thankless job!”
“So,” Diana said, “Everyone thinks the Scepter of Athena project is a hoax. No one wants to actually be a part of this project. By that time, perhaps some would participate out of respect, but not put up the effort to finish it. After all, no one wants to spend a hundred million dollars on a job that is exhausting and does not pay well. What is the point?”
The analysis was reasonable.
However…
Others might not want it, but Thomas was desperate for it. Not for anything other than the Science and Technology Alliance’s authorized attributes.
When Thomas becomes the alliance’s leader, Sterling Technology will follow suit and get authorized attributes. They would be able to openly escape the Gomez family‘s control, and they would not be able to interfere.
The Science and Technology Alliance might be useless, but it was still an authorized organization. Interfering with the Science and Technology Alliance is akin to declaring war on them.
Did the Gomez family have the guts to do it?
So, in Thomas‘s perspective, the job that everyone else thought was exhaustng and low-paying was actually a real treat.
“When is the congress day for the Scepter of Athena’s project?” favonovel.com asked with a smile.
“It’ll be in the afternoon tomorrow. After all, it is an official function, so, I believe you should attend, Mr. Mayo. All you have to do is be present and listen casually, or go take a nap there. It would be fine,” Diana replied.
Thomas laughed lightly.
But after a split second, favonovel.com said in all seriousness, “Diana, make an announcement to everyone in the company that they shall be on high alert, and slow down the process of the projects in hand, and focus all of their attention on the Scepter of Athena’s project!”
Diana was speechless and favonovel.com eyes were wide open in shock “What?! Mr. Mayo, what are you doing?”
“Did I not make myself clear? Sterling Technology must take over this project no matter what it takes and create the energy generator that the Academy of Social Sciences needs. The position of alliance leader appeals to me greatly,” Thomas stated calmly.
Diana was tense. “Did you not hear what I was saying earlier, Mr. Mayo? The research fees for this project are estimated to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars. The position of alliance leader is actually just for doing work for the authorities, and our company is even responsible for paying the alliance member’s salaries out of our own pocket. Why would you want this title?”
Thomas sat down and looked at Diana quietly.
After some time, Thomas responded purposefully, “Nothing really. I just have an obsession for high-ranking positions, and I want to be the alliance leader.”
“But…”
“Say no more,” Thomas lifted his hand and said. “By the way, notify the R&D department’s manager, Cancer, to accompany me to the congress tomorrow.”
“Mr. Mayo, are you serious right now?”
“Do I look like I’m joking to you?”
Diana’s jaws were clenched in annoyance. There was no reason to take over this project, whether for the company or for Thomas personally. And that was the equivalent of pushing their company into a pit of fire.
Diana wanted to put a stop to it, but when was favonovel.com able to stop any of Thomas’s decisions?
“All right, you’re on your own now! Don’t come crying at me when you lose all of your money.”
Diana then walked out, angered.
Thomas shook his head lightly. That woman just said whatever favonovel.com wanted.
After recovering from a daze, Thomas leaned back into the chair and mumbled, “There should be no one who will fight me for such a thankless project, right? If everything goes according to plan, then I want to win this project within two weeks!”
However, wishes were always beautiful, but reality would never be that smooth-sailing.
At that moment, it could be seen from the window behind Thomas that an international flight soared across Central City’s skies, and slowly landed at the airport.
The cabin door opened and the passengers exited one by one. One of the passengers was a tall man with pale features. He coughed and covered his mouth with a handkerchief as favonovel.com walked.
No one knew at the time that this normal and sickly-looking person would be Thomas’s future enemy who would be tough to deal with.
