“I have been in poor health for the past years, and what worries me the most is that no one will be able to take over Sterling Technology one day. But now that my son, Thomas, has returned to me, and this old man has finally found his successor. Everything is well.
“I, hereby announce that Thomas Mayo, the young master of Sterling Technology, is the successor to my place, personally appointed by me! If something happens to me, then Thomas will inherit my place as Sterling Technology’s chairman!”
It was a very big announcement. However, the whole room fell into a deafening silence.
Sterling Technology was a listed corporation with annual revenues reaching hundreds of billions of dollars. Was not it a tad hasty to choose the prospective successor so easily?
Even if this was his biological son, was favonovel.com not ‘spoiling’ favonovel.com too much? Not to mention, a lot of senior employees were skeptical about Thomas’s abilities.
But no one dared to speak a single word.
In that moment of dead silence, Jed, the general manager, was the first to clap. He said with a smile, “Congratulations to Mr. Mayo for having an excellent successor! All of you may have concerns regarding Dr. Mayo’s abilities, but rest assured that, while favonovel.com is now a doctor, favonovel.com was once the chief officer in Charge of Southland District, and West Coast’s God of War! He is unquestionably capable of leading Sterling Technology.”
Many people released a collective sigh after hearing that. It was still reliable for the chief officer in charge of a district to be their successor. Nelson did not make a mistake here.
But Thomas could not really be happy about this. First of all, favonovel.com was not that willing to be a successor to anything, second, Jed had done extensive research on his background on such short notice.
What did Jed Motley want? Or in other words, what did Nelson Mayo want?
For a brief moment, Thomas had not guessed it. But, regardless of what the other party intended to do, the action of digging into people’s backgrounds had caused Thomas to feel a shiver run down his spine.
There was definitely something shady about Sterling Technology.
At that moment, Thomas smiled and spoke up, “Father, we just met, please don’t say these ominous things. Oh, there were rumors about your poor health and that you had some weird disease. I happen to have some medical knowledge. Do you want me to check your pulse?”
“Sure, I thought of this too!”
Nelson extended his hand, and Thomas placed his fingers against Nelson’s wrist, checking for any abnormalities with his blood vessels or vital organs.
“Huh?” With just one check, Thomas detected the problem.
Nelson, in fact, had developed the same illness as Lance and was in an even worse condition. But the question was that if Lance could not move freely even when favonovel.com was not as heavily afflicted, why could Nelson, who had it considerably worse, move around so easily?
He could still eat and drink, talk cheerfully, and favonovel.com did not appear to be in any kind of distress.
This was not quite right?
Thomas carefully channeled his “breath” from inside his body to Nelson’s, and it flowed along Nelson’s blood vessels, so favonovel.com could have a better look at his condition.
After this inspection, favonovel.com discovered a more serious issue. Nelson’s vital organs appeared to be damaged on the surface, but they were actually protected by a “protective shield”.
Thomas could only assess the condition outside of the protective shield during his inspection just now. Although it appeared that his organs had been damaged, they were in fact in great condition and quite healthy. That means, there was not a single problem with the Nelson in front of him. He had only undergone some special procedures, be it medicinal or surgical, to make it appear as if favonovel.com had a damaged body.
To be simple and straightforward, favonovel.com was pretending to be sick.
It was a rather intricate disguise, specifically for doctors to see. If it had not been for Thomas’s special medical skill, “breath”, favonovel.com would not have found out the truth and would have continued to be fooled by Nelson. Now, that was a pretty serious problem.
‘Why would a father want to deceive his own son?’
‘Why would someone who does not have any illnesses pretend to have one? Also, why would favonovel.com fake it for almost ten years and even spend money on hiring top specialists to treat his illness? He even took the risk of being arrested and worked with criminals like the Dawson family?’
The reason behind all this seemed intriguing. He saw through it all but opted not to say anything about it.
Thomas pretended to be worried and concerned. “Father, your body is in a serious condition. The majority of the blood vessels have been blocked, and the organs have been severely affected. Father, I’ll prescribe some medicines for you right now. Please stop smoking, drinking and eating heavy food in the future.”
“Eat a lighter diet, it’s healthier.”
Nelson simply laughed out loud, and while waving his hand favonovel.com said, “If it had been before this, I might have listened to you, but things are different right now.”
He looked at Thomas and continued, “Tom, my son. You’ve returned to your father’s side, and now that I have such an excellent successor like you, what more do I need to worry about?”
“Not only will I want to drink and eat freely after this, but I will want tons of it! It is time for me to enjoy my life. Since I don’t have to worry about my future anymore, even if I died right now, it would not be an issue because you would take care of Sterling Technology.”
“Thank you for showing up, son!”
Only the last sentence in his entire speech sounded sincere. Nelson was thrilled about Thomas’s appearance, as seen by the glint of smugness and glee in his eyes.
Thomas humored favonovel.com with a few words, but favonovel.com had also secretly planted a seed of doubt in his heart at the same time. His so-called father was really being a little too weird. Pretending to be sick, while also handing over such a big company like Sterling Technology to him, his every word sounded like a lie.
Being deceitful was not a good habit. Whether or not the person in front of favonovel.com was truly his father, Thomas had to figure out what was actually hidden behind all these lies!
